The YMCA of Greater New York Association Office is seeking a Senior Accountant who will be responsible for performing accounting work, including, but not limited to, maintaining and reconciling general ledger accounts, analyzing financial records and reports, preparing financial and statistical reports, providing information to Association staff, and leading Community House accounting operations. The Senior Accountant will also assist in the preparation of monthly account reconciliations, financial reports, budgets, and audits.
Key Responsibilities:
Serve as a key member of the Community House accounting operations team, collaborating closely with the business manager to ensure accurate accounting, thorough reconciliations, and detailed financial analysis. Play an integral role in the annual audit process.
Prepare journal entries and reconcile the general ledger and subsidiary accounts for the monthly and yearly book close for the Association.
Track and review monthly transitional housing, space rental billings, receivables, collections, and prepare monthly allowance, bad debt calculation, conversion between cash and accrual basis, and related journal entries.
Track monthly online credit card donations, reconcile the data between the credit card processing portal and GL, and prepare journal entries and reconciliation of the related receivable accounts.
Conduct space rental, occupancy, average daily rate, open purchase order listing, and other ad hoc reporting requests.
Reconcile petty cash accounts for all branches and prepare data entry for government cash receipts and reclassifications for the government team.
Assist in the monthly processing and posting of Government Cash Receipts.
Assist with the implementation of new software solutions.
Assist with the preparation of the annual budget. Work with staff across the Association office and branches to develop a budget accurately and in a timely manner.
Assist with schedule preparation and retrieving documents for government contracts, CFR preparation, state, and financial statement audits.
Responsible for other accounting areas and matters as assigned.
Desired Skills & Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting required. CPA is a plus.
Three (3) to five (5) years of accounting experience required.
Minimum of one (1) year of non-profit experience.
Knowledge of GAAP and non-profit accounting practices.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel (i.e., pivot table, VLOOKUP, sumif), and database spreadsheets.
Experience with Oracle, Salesforce, and AS400 is a plus.
Experience with QuickBooks is a plus.
