Red Hat is seeking a skilled Linux maintenance engineer to join our support organization. This is a great opportunity to be part of a leading enterprise software and services company that is at the forefront of open source innovation. Our Global Support Services team is dedicated to resolving customer issues efficiently, providing high-level technical support and engineering services to maximize uptime and reduce IT costs.
The Software Maintenance Engineer will work closely with customers’ developers and architects, assisting front-line support with complex issues, and collaborating with R&D teams to ensure software updates and patches are effectively managed. The role requires troubleshooting, debugging, and developing solutions to support software maintenance efforts.
Responsibilities include:
* Providing technical support to Red Hat enterprise customers
* Working with global customers, occasionally on weekends
* Resolving complex issues in Red Hat Satellite and other system management products
* Investigating and troubleshooting technical problems using available tools
* Documenting customer interactions and resolutions
* Collaborating with support engineers, technical account managers, and development teams
* Prioritizing workload to ensure timely resolution of issues
* Analyzing upstream development and developing patches for reported defects
* Developing reusable self-service solutions for future incidents
* Sharing knowledge and best practices for product technologies
Qualifications:
* At least 5 years of experience in a customer-facing technical role within an enterprise environment, with a proven record of solving complex problems
* Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills, with the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
* Proficiency in coding languages such as Ruby, Rails, AngularJS, Python, or Java
* Experience with configuration management and automated deployment tools like Katello, Foreman, Puppet, Chef, CFEngine, or Spacewalk
* Understanding of web application architecture and frameworks
* Experience with Git and version control systems
Preferred skills:
* Contributions to open-source projects
* Experience with Linux system administration, patch management, and configuration management
* Knowledge of REST APIs and database management (PostgreSQL)
