Advancing possibilities for a brighter tomorrow We are seeking a Principal Chemist on a permanent basis to join our team.
Job Purpose: The Principal Chemist is a technical leader responsible for leading the development, characterisation, optimisation, and commercialisation of materials, formulations, and analytical approaches supporting medical device and drug/device combination product development.
This role provides site-level technical leadership across polymer science, formulation engineering, analytical chemistry, and material science, helping teams solve complex problems, translate concepts into robust solutions, and deliver safe, effective, and manufacturable products.
The Principal Chemist acts as a technical mentor for engineers and chemists across the organisation, providing both technical and behavioural leadership.
This role builds strong internal and external partnerships, facilitates cross-functional execution, and represents the site with credibility and professionalism in global forums.
Key Responsibilities: · Lead the design, optimisation, and scale-up of chemical processes for new and existing products, ensuring safety, quality, and manufacturability.
· Independently plan and execute laboratory, pilot-scale, and plant-relevant experiments, including DoE, reaction optimisation, workup design, and product characterisation.
· Serve as a technical lead for assigned processes or projects, providing expert input to Manufacturing, Engineering, Quality, and Supply Chain teams.
· Analyse and improve existing manufacturing processes using advanced chemistry, process engineering principles, and Lean Six Sigma tools.
· Lead technology transfer activities from development to manufacturing, ensuring robust process understanding and successful implementation.
· Proactively troubleshoot complex process deviations, leading root cause investigations and defining sustainable corrective actions.
· Define, justify, and defend critical process parameters (CPPs) to support validation activities, regulatory submissions, and process robustness.
· Implement and enhance process monitoring strategies, including PAT and statistical trending, to drive control and continuous improvement.
· Author and review technical reports, SOPs, batch documentation, and validation protocols, ensuring accuracy and regulatory compliance.
· Provide technical mentoring and guidance to junior chemists and operations staff, supporting capability development across the team.
· Represent Process Chemistry in cross-functional forums, risk assessments, and project reviews.
