Description
Scope of the Role:
The National Children’s Cancer Service (NCCS) at CHI, Crumlin, provides diagnosis and treatment for children and adolescents (0–15 years, 364 days) with cancer in Ireland. This includes solid tumors (Oncology) and haematological malignancies (Leukaemia and lymphoma). The NCCS also encompasses the National Centre for Paediatric Haematopoietic Stem Cell Transplant (HSCT) and aligns with the National Cancer Control Programme.
The activity of the NCCS has increased significantly in size and complexity. Care for children and adolescents with cancer is delivered through clinically governed programmes and patient pathways. Treatment for paediatric leukaemia and lymphoma is planned according to internationally recognised best practices and delivered following international treatment protocols. Most patients with haematological malignancies are enrolled in clinical trials, requiring ongoing collaborative MDT discussions with other CCLG centres.
