Paediatric Speech & Language Therapist - Job Description Purpose of Role: To provide specialist speech and language therapy assessment and intervention to children and young people (0-18 years) with communication, speech, language, and/or swallowing difficulties. Key Responsibilities: Assessment & Intervention: Conduct comprehensive assessments of children's speech, language, communication, and swallowing abilities using standardized and informal tools Assess speech sound disorders, language delays/disorders, stammering, voice difficulties, social communication challenges, and feeding/swallowing difficulties Develop and implement evidence-based, child-centered intervention plans in collaboration with the child, family, and multidisciplinary team Provide direct therapy using age-appropriate techniques and play-based approaches Assess for and implement Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) systems when required Monitor progress and adjust treatment plans to achieve functional communication goals Family & School Collaboration: Work in partnership with parents and carers, providing education, coaching, and strategies to support communication development at home Liaise with teachers, special needs assistants, and school staff to support children's communication in educational settings Conduct school-based assessments and provide recommendations for classroom supports Contribute to Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and support educational transitions Provide training to families and education staff on communication strategies and AAC use Caseload & Clinical Management: Manage assigned caseload effectively, prioritizing based on clinical need Maintain accurate clinical records and documentation in compliance with professional standards and GDPR Prepare assessment and progress reports for families, schools, and referrers Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and case conferences Plan appropriate discharge or transition of care when goals are achieved Professional Standards: Practice in accordance with CORU and IASLT professional standards and guidelines Engage in continuous professional development relevant to paediatric practice Participate in clinical supervision, reflective practice, and quality improvement initiatives Adhere to child safeguarding policies and report concerns appropriately Maintain health and safety standards in all clinical activities Essential Requirements: BSc/MSc in Speech & Language Therapy (CORU-recognized) Current CORU registration (Speech and Language Therapists Registration Board) IASLT membership or eligibility Post-qualification experience working with children (1-2+ years preferred) Knowledge of childhood communication and swallowing development and disorders Strong communication and interpersonal skills Desirable: Postgraduate training in paediatric areas (e.g., autism, dysphagia, AAC, stammering) Experience with paediatric assessment tools and intervention programs (e.g., Hanen, PECS, Makaton) Training in feeding and swallowing assessment for children Full clean driving licence for community visits Skills: speech therapy
