Overview

Research Assistant Water Resource Management and Stakeholder Engagement – Dublin City University (DCU).

Applications are invited for the position of #003091 - Research Assistant Water Resource Management and Stakeholder Engagement. The DCU Water Institute (WI) is a cross-faculty initiative of research and education on water. It aims to work with all stakeholders – a quadruple helix of academia, industry, agency and society in its research and development work. Through research and capacity building, the WI develops solutions to national and global problems in water. We specialise in technology developments across science, engineering and computer science domains with strong communications focus and policy and business drivers.

Project context: Research Assistant on the Water4All EcoTwin project (Digital Twin-based solutions for enhanced integration of ecosystem services in water resource management). EcoTwin aims to leverage the transformative potential of digital twins for the better integration of ecosystem services in water resource management, focusing on flood/drought regulation, irrigation, habitat provisioning, recreation, water supply, carbon & nutrient management.

The appointee will work closely with project partners and stakeholders from a range of backgrounds such as catchment managers, water treatment engineers, community groups and wildlife and conservation managers to focus on problem analyses and co-development of lake digital twins at a number of demonstrator sites across Europe. The researcher will engage with stakeholders through workshops, follow-up discussions, qualitative interviews and surveys to co-identify water quality challenges (ecosystem services at risk) at each demonstrator site and prioritise according to impact, likelihood, and complexity. Information collected will be used to integrate ecosystem services modules into the digital twins. Follow-up with stakeholders will aim to obtain iterative feedback to promote the co-developed end-product design. An in-depth evaluation of the management benefits of the DT will be undertaken within each of the demonstrator sites.

The project activities will be coordinated by Dublin City University (DCU). The appointee will be mainly based in DCU and will report to the work package coordinator Dr Valerie McCarthy, but will work closely with other project partners from Bangor University and the Aquatic Ecology of the Netherlands Institute of Ecology (NIOO-KNAW).
