About the Role:
Reporting to the Core Network Engineering Manager, this contract position focuses on IP technologies within a Service Provider environment. The primary responsibilities include core network builds and migrations, with occasional involvement in operational support. The successful candidate will contribute to network architecture changes across the Core IP Network.
Key Responsibilities:
* Design, build, and implement MPLS configurations
* Plan and deliver physical interconnects and service migrations
* Execute IP transit implementations and related migrations
* Collaborate with network architects to shape the future of the Core IP Network
* Stay informed on emerging networking trends and technologies
* Develop bespoke first-of-type services in a lab environment, creating scripts and templates for wider deployment
* Perform core network software/hardware upgrades and migrations during maintenance windows, adhering to Change Management protocols
* Configure and support core network devices including P/PE/BNG routers and aggregation switches
* Troubleshoot complex networking issues under time constraints and manage priorities effectively
* Escalate advanced faults to vendor TAC teams and assist with resolution, including lab-based replication
* Ensure a smooth handover process from Service Delivery to Operations for new services
* Manage and plan for IPv4/IPv6 address allocations
Skills & Expertise:
* Relevant third-level qualification in telecommunications or related field – essential
* Minimum 3 years of experience as a network engineer within a major telecoms or service provider environment – essential
* Juniper certifications such as JNCIA/JNCIS (or equivalent Juniper hands-on experience) – essential
* Practical experience with Juniper MX series platforms – essential
* Cisco certifications such as CCNA R&S, CCNP R&S, CCNP SP – desirable
* Experience working with multi-vendor equipment (Juniper, Cisco, Nokia, Ciena) – essential
* Strong knowledge of networking protocols (e.g., OSPF, BGP, MPLS, L2/L3 VPN, PIM, QoS, Segment Routing, IPv6, RPKI) – essential
* Scripting experience in Python or similar – highly desirable
* Excellent documentation and communication skills – essential
* Full, clean driving licence – essential
