About The Role
We’re seeking exceptional talent with proven experience in Technical Research or Research Engineering at leading technology or tech‑adjacent companies, and a background in academia. The ideal candidate has a track record of designing, executing, and communicating high‑impact research outcomes and can navigate complex, rapidly evolving problem spaces. They should have hands‑on experience developing and implementing cutting‑edge AI/ML systems, large‑scale models, or mathematics‑focused work, and have led collaborative, cross‑functional research and engineering teams. The role blends deep research expertise with coaching, and is ideal for leaders who value learning, growth, and community.
Responsibilities
Provide 1:1 coaching to Mento members through virtual sessions using the Mento Platform and Tools.
Participate in ongoing training sessions to improve coaching abilities and skills.
Communicate with members via email or chat in the Mento App between sessions.
Share coaching tools and insights to enhance our coaching practices and fulfil our mission of empowering people to thrive in jobs they love.
Act with kindness, respect, and empathy as an ambassador of the Mento community.
Complete the ICF‑certified coach training program before engaging with members.
Qualifications
15+ years of experience leading technical research teams at or adjacent to the technology industry (director, VP, or other senior research leader).
Strong expertise in theoretical and applied AI/ML, large‑scale modelling, computer science, or mathematical sciences.
Significant research leadership experience with publications, patents, or a PhD (preferred).
Experience coaching individuals (coaching certification is a plus but not required).
Self‑aware with high emotional IQ, capable of creating a safe space for vulnerability.
Passionate about helping people advance in the workplace and build fulfilling careers.
Comfortable working in a constantly changing startup environment.
Commitment to devote a minimum of 12+ hours per month to coaching, and at least 24 months of engagement.
Other Details
Contract position paid per hour, with bonuses that incentivise engagement and community growth.
Requires 3–5 hours of coaching per week, independent of other commitments.
Full‑remote role; candidates must be based in North America or Europe.
Part‑time growth opportunity for senior leaders looking to expand coaching skills.
