As we continue to grow, we need a motivated and ambitious Electrical Field Engineer to be based in our Leixlip site in Ireland.
The Electrical Field Engineer supervises and/or performs preventive and corrective maintenance, troubleshooting, modification, installation, and commissioning of electrical equipment in Global Operations production facilities, joint ventures, and third-party facilities. The role may also include broader responsibilities requiring advanced technical skills gained through formal training, independent study, and experience. Strong supervisory and communication skills are essential for success.
The Electrical Field Engineer is required to prepare written reports promptly after completing assignments. These reports should include technical information, drawings, spare parts used, scope of work, resources employed, key durations, recommendations, feedback, methods, special procedures/tools, and future work suggestions.
They will also provide technical support for commissioning new plant and equipment, including reviewing and verifying correct installation, conducting function checks, and ensuring safety standards are followed during installation and commissioning.
Key responsibilities include:
1. Responding to electrical breakdowns, inspecting, analyzing faults, repairing, and re-commissioning affected equipment to minimize production loss.
2. Supporting plant maintenance according to the Plant Maintenance program, including routine and major overhaul maintenance, especially during shutdowns.
3. Supervising contractors and staff, ensuring work is planned and executed safely and effectively.
4. Carrying out plant modifications per design specifications, submitting design changes for approval, and managing project scope, costs, and implementation.
5. Advising Plant Managers and staff on maintenance issues and providing technical drawings when necessary.
6. Reviewing and updating preventive maintenance procedures in collaboration with the Maintenance Systems group to improve safety, quality, or cost-efficiency.
The ideal candidate will have:
* Knowledge of electrical equipment such as motors, relays, switchgear, starters, control systems, transformers, generators, and distribution systems.
* Technical skills prioritized over supervisory skills.
* Ability to troubleshoot independently and understand the interrelation between electrical systems and process plant equipment.
* Experience analyzing problems and implementing permanent solutions.
* Completion of a formal electrical apprenticeship and a tertiary vocational qualification (minimum HNC or equivalent), with experience in electrical distribution, protection, and controls.
* The ability to read electrical control drawings.
* Preferred experience with high voltage and large motors.
* Proficiency in spoken and written English.
* Previous experience in an industrial gases environment with broad electrical equipment proficiency is advantageous.
This position demands flexibility, as Field Engineers are expected to respond to operational needs 24/7, including travel within the UK and Ireland at short notice.
