Location: Limerick
Contract: Full-time, 1 Year-Fixed Term
The purpose of this role is to provide support to Tenants currently in local authority accommodation. You will assess potential tenants suitable for transfer due to social, emotional, or physical needs and identify transfer options.
What You Will Do
1. Work as part of the Housing Support Services within Limerick City & County Council.
2. Assess current or new local authority tenants requiring new, alternative, or transfer accommodation under Limerick City & County Council guidelines. Request additional supports from relevant agencies to enable tenants to sustain their tenancies.
3. Visit individuals in their community and, where appropriate, in their homes.
4. Establish links and network with local agencies, community groups, and services to support tenants.
5. Respond appropriately to child protection and welfare concerns, following referral and notification procedures involving TUSLA or An Garda Síochána.
6. Maintain a client-centred, non-judgemental approach, encouraging autonomy and independence.
7. Communicate regularly with your Line Manager regarding tenant issues, landlords, estate agents, and other services.
8. Participate in supervision sessions with the Housing Welfare Unit Line Manager and Focus Ireland Housing Services Manager.
9. Work under the supervision of the Rental Accommodation Scheme Department and Limerick City & County Council Housing Department.
10. Comply with all relevant policies, including Child Protection, Confidentiality, Customer Complaints, Health & Safety, and Personnel policies.
11. Maintain accurate records and reports.
12. Collaborate with other Limerick City & County Council Housing Departments.
13. Supervise and support colleagues as required.
14. Contribute to the review, evaluation, and development of the Housing Welfare Unit.
15. Participate in training and development courses.
16. Attend team, section, and agency meetings as needed.
17. Prepare monthly reports for supervision or as requested.
18. Work cooperatively with other council departments regarding organizational procedures and policies.
19. Align work with the overall objectives of Limerick City & County Council.
20. Undertake additional duties as assigned by your Line Manager, Executive Officer, or Director of Services.
21. The standard workweek is 37 hours; working hours may be adjusted by Limerick City & County Council.
What You Will Need
1. A third-level qualification in Social Care or related fields (e.g., Youth Work, Social Studies, Psychology, Addiction).
2. Extensive experience in a Social Care setting.
3. Strong understanding of Child Protection and Welfare responsibilities and appropriate responses.
4. Ability to carry out client assessments, including risk and housing needs assessments.
5. Willingness and ability to work independently and handle challenging behaviour.
6. Ability to work effectively within a team.
7. Willingness to develop professional skills through supervision.
8. Own car and a full, clean driving license.
9. Understanding of available social housing supports (desirable).
10. Advocacy skills for client groups (desirable).
11. Experience in the housing/homeless sector (desirable).
12. Knowledge of legislation governing the private rented sector (desirable).
13. Report writing and IT skills (desirable).
14. Networking and mediation skills (desirable).
