Your new companyHays has been retained to recruit a Senior Technical Design Engineer for our client, a construction contractor who specialises in Roofing and Cladding projects based in North Cork.Your new roleThe Senior Technical Designer is a project-facing lead designer responsible for producing and coordinating façade and glazing design information to the required technical standard, on time and in line with company governance. They act as the technical driver on their allocated projects, taking the brief from the Design Manager and Head of Technical and turning it into fully coordinated drawings, models and schedules that are buildable, compliant and aligned with our digital tools (CoreLink, Revit/Rhino/Grasshopper where used). A key part of the role is to mentor and develop junior designers and technicians, setting the standard for how design work is done on the project. Further duties include:Take ownership of allocated project zones or full small/medium projects, from scheme through to detailed and construction design.Develop façade and glazing details (2D and 3D) that meet architectural intent and performance requirements, comply with agreed systems, typical details and company standards, and are buildable and coordinated with structure, services and interfaces.Prepare and maintain technical drawings and models (plans, elevations, sections, details, schedules) using the agreed tools (for example AutoCAD, Revit, Rhino).Support the Design Manager in maintaining the drawing register and issue schedule, ensuring your deliverables are ready for issue in line with the programme.Coordinate your design work with architects, structural engineers, services engineers and fire consultants.Coordinate with internal colleagues in Production, Procurement, Site and Computational Design to ensure design information supports downstream activities.Attend and contribute to design coordination meetings, clearly presenting your design proposals, constraints and risks.Respond to technical queries from site (requests for information) in a timely and structured way, escalating where needed to the Design Manager or Head of Technical.Make day-to-day technical design decisions on their allocated work where these are within agreed system choices, company standards and typical details.Propose alternative details or value engineering options to the Design Manager or Head of Technical.Prioritise their own workload within the agreed look-ahead plan for the project.What you'll need to succeedLevel 8 Degree in Structural Engineering or relevant discipline. 5+ years' experience in a design office within the Irish or UK market.5 years + experience in a structural and civil design consultancy.
