Associate Director – Financial Services Audit
Grant Thornton Ireland seeks an Associate Director to lead audit engagements in Financial Services sectors including Banking, Insurance, and Asset & Wealth Management.
Key responsibilities
Lead and oversee audit engagements across Banking, Insurance, and Asset/Wealth Management clients, ensuring high‑quality delivery.
Act as a trusted advisor to clients, developing strong relationships and deep understanding of business models, risks and regulatory environment.
Ensure engagement compliance with IFRS, Irish/UK GAAP, regulatory requirements and Grant Thornton methodology.
Manage and review complex audit areas including risk assessments, judgments, estimates, and technical accounting matters.
Supervise, coach and mentor managers, seniors and trainees, fostering a collaborative and inclusive team culture.
Support portfolio management responsibilities: resourcing, budgeting, fee management and recovery.
Contribute to practice development: thought leadership, training and technical excellence initiatives.
Identify and pursue new business opportunities, working with Partners on proposals, tenders and client pitches.
Collaborate with internal specialists (regulatory, risk, actuarial, valuations, IT audit) to deliver integrated solutions.
Qualifications & experience
ACA/ACCA (or equivalent) qualified.
7+ years post‑qualification experience in Financial Services audit.
Strong technical knowledge of IFRS and auditing standards; experience with Irish/UK GAAP is an advantage.
Depth of experience in at least one core FS sector (Banking, Insurance, or Asset/Wealth Management/Funds).
Experience managing large and complex audit engagements and portfolios.
Strong professional judgment and ability to challenge constructively.
Demonstrated leadership: motivating, developing and retaining high‑performing teams.
Commercial awareness and ability to identify value‑added opportunities for clients.
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, including senior client and regulator engagement.
Experience with electronic auditing and data‑enabled audit (Big‑4 or large firm background advantageous).
