About Olympic Handball IrelandOlympic Handball Ireland('OHI')is the National Governing Body for handball over the 32 counties of Ireland. Olympic Handball Ireland is responsible for the grassroots development of the sport, as well as national league and cup competitions. It is responsible for the development of national teams at all age groups, as well as developing coaches and referees and works in conjunction with multiple stakeholders, including Sport Ireland, Sport Northern Ireland, Olympic Federation of Ireland, Federation of Irish Sport, European Handball Federation, and International Handball Federation. The BoardThe Board is responsible for the governance of the sport, ensuring the delivery of our Mission, Core Values and Strategy. We are seeking to further strengthen the skill set and gender balance within the Board. As a director, you will have input into the delivery of our strategy and will contribute with insight and experience at meetings. All Directors are non-executive and act in a voluntary capacity. The Board is supported by ateam of staffwho look after the executive functions of the organisation. What we need from youWe are looking to bring in a director with suitable experience such as a formal accountancy degree to support the continued development of Olympic Handball Ireland. This is a volunteer (unpaid) role to assist in the application of governance by the board and the organisation. Ideal candidates will preferably have some of the following skills sets: A deep appreciation and knowledge of the Not-For-Profit sector.An understanding of and commitment to our mission and values.Commitment to the highest levels of corporate governance.Knowledge of Olympic handball is desirable but not essentialGeneral Duties of a DirectorActing within the Olympic Handball Ireland Constitution and the law as it applies to NGB's.Faithfully fulfilling the fiduciary duties of a Board Director as specified within the Republic of Ireland Companies Act and adhering to the policies and procedures outlined in Olympic Handball Ireland policies.Acting in the best interests of Olympic Handball Ireland at all times and particularly in relation to assets, property, statutory obligations and management requirements as outlined in Olympic Handball Ireland policies.Acting independently and not on behalf of any other person or organisation. - Abiding by Olympic Handball Ireland's Conflicts of Interest or Loyalty policy. - Not accepting gifts or gifts in kind in the capacity of a Board member.Acting with integrity, promoting the reputation of Olympic Handball Ireland and not bringing the reputation of the organisation into disrepute.Promoting and preserving the obligations of confidentiality and data protection within the Board and Olympic Handball Ireland as a whole.Providing adequate time and commitment as required to fulfill the role of Board member, adequately preparing for meetings and participating in committees and special events where appropriate and required.Sharing responsibility for Board decisions and bringing a genuinely independent perspective to enhance decision-making.Providing informed and impartial guidance and presenting views on topics in meetings while listening to and respecting the input and experience of other Board members.Not interfering in the duties delegated to the staff but holding them to account through the CEO.Working considerately and fairly with all in a way that respects diversity, different roles and boundaries and avoids giving offence.What you can expect from usInduction and training when you join the BoardOpportunities to make strategic decisions & develop new skills as a full Board memberInfluence and shape Olympic Handball Ireland's position in the Not-For-Profit SectorContribute to the shaping the future of Olympic handball through its strategyThe chance to improve the health & wellbeing of people in IrelandOpportunity to help strengthen the Irish Not-For-Profit sector resulting in stronger, healthier communitiesTime CommitmentThe Board meets eight to ten times per year. These meetings now take place over Zoom/Teams. When the Board meets face-to-face, the normal venue will be the Olympic Handball Ireland offices in Blanchardstown, Dublin 15. Co-opted Directors are co-opted until the next Annual General Meeting where they will be elected by the members for a three-year term. Flexibility is required to attend Committee meetings (this may include chairing a committee) when scheduled (approx. 4 times per year). Attendance at other key meetings and events, including participating in ad-hoc meetings subject to availability. Outside of Board meetings, the time commitment required would be 6-8 hours per month.
