Overview of role
We are hiring a Clinical Nurse Manager I to join our team on a permanent full‑time contract.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Coordinates and directs the daily patient care operations of the unit in the absence of the CNM2.
Analyzes workloads and skill requirements to meet patient care needs.
Assesses staff competencies and makes patient care assignments.
Delegates appropriate tasks to personnel, consistent with legal and professional guidelines and departmental standards.
Maintains clear communications with the Clinical Nurse Manager regarding unit needs and/or incidents.
Practice Nursing according to the Code of Professional Conduct as laid down by the Nursing Board (An Bórd Altranais) and Professional Clinical Guidelines.
Adhere to national, regional and local Health Service Executive (HSE) guidelines, policies, protocols and legislation.
Work within scope of practice and take measures to develop and maintain competence necessary for professional practice.
Maintain a high standard of professional behaviour and be accountable for practice.
Be aware of ethical policies and procedures pertinent to area of practice.
Respect and maintain the privacy, dignity and confidentiality of the patient.
Follow appropriate lines of authority within the Nurse Management structure Clinical Practice.
Deliver nursing care of an assigned group of patients following best practice / evidence based.
Promote the health, welfare and social wellbeing of patients within our services.
Actively participate as multi‑disciplinary / inter‑disciplinary team member in all aspects of service delivery including case conferences, clinical meetings, team meetings.
Assess, plan, implement and evaluate individual person‑centred care programmes within an agreed framework and in accordance with best practice.
Develop and promote good interpersonal relationships with patients, their family/social network and interdisciplinary care team.
Ensure care is carried out empathetically and ethically, respecting dignity and spiritual needs of the patient.
Promote and recognise patients' social and cultural dimensions of care and the need for links with local community.
Collaborate with patient, family, multi‑disciplinary/inter‑disciplinary team, external agencies and services to facilitate discharge planning, continuity of care and specific care requirements.
Provide appropriate and timely education and information to patient, family and advocate for patient and family.
Report and consult with senior nursing management on clinical issues as appropriate.
Maintain appropriate and accurate written nursing records and reports regarding patient care in accordance with local/national/professional guidelines.
Participate in innovation and change in patient care delivery, especially regarding new research findings, evidence based practice and advances in treatment.
Participate in clinical audit and review.
Participate in community needs assessment and ongoing community delivery of care as appropriate.
Promote a positive health concept with patients and colleagues and contribute to health promotion and disease prevention initiatives of the Health Service Executive.
Delegate to and supervise the work of other grades of staff within remit of their role, as appropriate.
Demonstrate flexibility by rotating/assisting in other units/ care settings as required to meet nursing resource needs.
Refer clients to other services as required.
Clinical Governance
Participate in clinical governance structures within local/regional/national framework.
Contribute to ongoing monitoring, audit and evaluation of service as appropriate.
Accurately record and report all complaints to appropriate personnel according to local service policy.
Participate in development of policies/procedures and guidelines to support compliance with legal requirements for safe storage and administration of medicines and other clinical products.
Work with health, safety, fire, risk and management personnel to develop policies/procedures and guidelines, complying with statutory obligations.
Observe, report and take appropriate action on any matter detrimental to patient care.
Be aware of and comply with principles of clinical governance including quality, risk and health and safety; individually responsible for governance, risk management/health and safety issues.
Participate in development, promotion and implementation of infection prevention and control guidelines.
Adhere to organisational dress code.
Assume responsibility for and coordinate management of unit/care setting in absence of Clinical Nurse Manager Education, Training & Development.
Take responsibility for own competency and learning and development needs and contribute to the learning and development of interdisciplinary team.
Complete mandatory training as deemed necessary by Director of Nursing and ABA.
Participate in performance evaluation/review with line manager, identifying areas for improvement and appropriate plans/measures.
Provide feedback to Clinical Nurse Manager or designated officer regarding proficiency assessments for students in clinical setting.
Use reflective practice techniques to inform and guide practice as part of daily work.
Identify and contribute to continual enhancement of learning opportunities within population health framework.
Participate in clinical/workplace induction of all new nursing and support staff.
Contribute to identification of training needs pertinent to clinical area.
Develop teaching skills and participate in planning and implementation of orientation, training and teaching programmes for nursing students and other health‑care staff as appropriate.
Participate in development of performance indicators in conjunction with Clinical Nurse Manager.
Participate in innovation and change in service user care delivery, and contribute to service planning process, based on best practice and under direction of Nurse Management/Nurse Practice Development.
Maintain records and submit activity data/furnish appropriate reports to Clinical Nurse Manager as required.
Contribute to policy development and formulation, performance monitoring, business planning and budgetary control.
Maintain professional standards including patient and data confidentiality.
Contribute to development and implementation of information sharing protocols, audit systems, referral pathways, individual care plans and shared care arrangements.
Ensure care setting maintained in good order using appropriate models; supplies adequate; equipment in good working order and ready for immediate use.
Ensure equipment safe to use and report malfunctions timely.
Assist with ordering of supplies and ensure appropriate and efficient use of supplies, exercise economy in consumables.
Undertake other duties as required by Clinical Nurse Manager.
Accreditation
Will familiarise themselves with policies, procedures and guidelines directly related to their clinical care and area.
Assist in the review of policies, procedures and guidelines under the direction of the chapter lead/department manager.
Lean
Lead, facilitate and participate in lean projects with all disciplines and departments of the hospital.
Support and participate with others to problem solve and continuously improve through use of lean tools and techniques.
Attend/participate on‑site training as required.
Personnel
Follow uniform policy reference.
General
Requirement to work in other areas of hospital as requested by line manager/deputy or nurse management.
Staff must produce satisfactory documentary evidence of all training and experience claimed if required by the organisation.

Records must never be left accessible to unauthorised persons and must be kept in safe custody when no longer required.
Qualifications & Experience
Qualifications
Statutory Registration, Professional Qualifications, Experience etc. Eligible applicants: registered or eligible for registration in General Division of Register of Nurses & Midwives by Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland. Candidates must possess knowledge and ability including high standard of suitability and clinical, managerial and administrative capacity to discharge role functions.
Annual registration: maintain live annual registration on relevant division of Register of Nurses and Midwives. Confirm annual registration with NMBI to HSE by way of Patient Safety Assurance Certificate (PSAC).
Health: candidates and any person holding office must be fully competent and capable of undertaking duties attached to office and in state of health indicating reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service.
Character: candidates and any person holding office must be of good character.
Experience
3 years Oncology experience.
Demonstrate depth and breadth of nursing experience in oncology nursing, as relevant to role.
Oncology Post Grad or similar essential.
Job Specific Competencies and Knowledge
Competent in IV/Oral Chemotherapy administration.
Competent in accessing, maintaining & care of CVAD devices.
Competent in IV Cannulation & Venepuncture.

Salary scale
€ 57,208.23 - € 67,372.50 per annum based on a 37.5 hour week.
