Rotunda Hospital

Ref No: 2025/59 Research Assistant – Part Time Specified Purpose Contract

We are currently looking to hire a Research Assistant to join our team here in the Rotunda Hospital. The Research Assistant will work part-time on a study which aims to support the Rotunda Hospital in moving towards trauma-informed care. To do this, an organisation wide assessment of policy and practice will be conducted that incorporates experts by profession and lived experience. The results of the assessment will lead to an organisational roadmap with specific steps the Rotunda can take to be trauma-informed.

We may create a panel of future candidates from this competition.

Principal Duties And Responsibilities

The post-holder will assist the Principal Investigator and other members of the research team in the literature review process. The post-holder’s responsibilities and duties will include:

Design and implementing evaluation activities


* The post-holder will support the design and implementation of multiple evaluation activities including surveys, interviews and focus group discussions with both hospital staff and patients.
* The post-holder will engage with project stakeholders, including a Public and Patient Involvement- Advisory Group (PPI-AG) to co-create project materials.

Data analysis and synthesis

* The post-holder will conduct multiple analyses of both qualitative and quantitative data using a variety of techniques.
* The post-holder will collaborate with PPI-AG members to conduct co-analysis techniques. In collaboration with the research team, the post-holder will be responsible for incorporating PPI-AG results and synthesizing all data to form project outputs.

Public and Patient Involvement- Advisory Group (PPI-AG) facilitation

* The post-holder will be responsible for coordinating and facilitating the project’s PPI-AG. This will include scheduling and facilitating meetings, utilizing participatory research methods with PPI-AG members, and supporting members in any challenges or conflicts that may arise.

Project Dissemination

* The post-holder will support in the preparation of journal articles for publication. The post-holder will be expected to identify relevant dissemination activities (e.g., academic conferences), prepare materials for dissemination activities, and present key project findings.

General Project Support

* The post-holder will be expected to participate in the project as a member of the research team. This will include attendance at project team meetings, active participation within project activities, providing relevant updates and presenting on progress, as well as administrative research duties as needed.

Eligibility Criteria

Qualifications

* The ideal candidate must hold an undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline and have equivalent relevant experience.
* The ideal candidate will have published research in a peer reviewed journal
* The ideal candidate will have research experience in trauma informed care.

Essential

Knowledge & Experience (Essential & Desirable)

1 Research skills

* Ability to design and implement multiple assessment methods (e.g., interviews, focus groups, surveys) ethically and effectively.
* Ability to troubleshoot and adapt research methods to overcome challenges in real-world clinical settings
* Ability to manage large datasets while maintaining participant confidentiality and upholding all relevant policies/laws including GDPR.
* Ability to identify and apply appropriate data analysis techniques, including quantitative and qualitative approaches.
* Experience with relevant research software including but not limited to SPSS, NVIVO and Survey Monkey.

2 Applied understanding of medical settings and trauma-informed care (TIC)

* Strong understanding of TIC principles, practices, and strengths and limitations of current research.
* Demonstrable application of TIC principles to a research setting.
* Strong understanding of the role of TIC in medical settings, and specifically maternity care.
* Ability to predict challenges and create solutions for utilising TIC in a maternity care setting.

3 Stakeholder engagement

* Strong interpersonal communication skills to collaborate with diverse stakeholders, including hospital staff and representatives of patient groups.
* Ability to facilitate meetings and discussions to ensure alignment on project goals and timelines across various parties.
* Knowledge and experience of participatory research techniques, including but not limited to co-design and co-analysis techniques with non-research stakeholders.
* Capacity to address and resolve conflicts or issues that arise between stakeholders in a professional and constructive manner.

4 Administrative and organisational skills

* Experience in managing research logistics, including scheduling, documentation, and maintaining accurate records of study activities.
* Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize responsibilities to ensure deadlines are met.

5 Teamwork and collaboration

* Proven ability to work effectively within interdisciplinary teams, collaborating with healthcare professionals, researchers, and patients.
* Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to work collaboratively to address obstacles and ensure successful project completion.

6 Demonstrated commitment to fostering a positive and supportive team dynamic, promoting mutual respect and trust among team members.

Skills & Competencies

* Extensive I.T. skills: Displays evidence of a high level of competency in Microsoft Office, in particular Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Microsoft Outlook, and in qualitative analysis packages such as NVIVO. Experience in use of web technology (e.g. webinars, Zoom conferencing and podcasts).
* Team worker: Ability to work effectively as part of a team – tolerant, cordial, and willing to help others, shares work and information; establish rapport with others.
* Organisational Ability: Excellent organisational and task management skills together with the ability to work on several tasks simultaneously. Can prioritize tasks and meet deadlines; be capable of working on own initiative, with minimal supervision, and work under time constraints; be enthusiastic, flexible, and willing to work outside normal office hours when required; ability to develop creative solutions to multifaceted problems.
* Conscientious: Have a pro-active approach to work, anticipating and resolving problems in advance; and able to pay attention to detail - from anticipating and addressing issues to understanding requests and delivering quality work with minimal errors.
* Flexibility: can operate flexibly within a busy project office environment and can shift focus when required.
