Position: Dentist 1
This Dentist 1 position is a direct service role responsible for providing professional dental care to youth in OCFS custody. The incumbent will diagnose and treat dental diseases, injuries, and malformations of teeth and gums. The Dentist 1 will perform a full range of dental duties, including treatment of dental health problems requiring restorative or preventive measures, in accordance with agency policies and procedures.
Primary duties and responsibilities include:
1. Conduct examinations of individuals' teeth and surrounding oral structures using diagnostic tools such as x-rays and mouth mirrors to identify pathological or irregular conditions.
2. Treat dental diseases, injuries, and malfunctions of teeth and gums.
3. Perform restorations of cavities, both simple and complex.
4. Administer anesthetics as required.
5. Perform oral surgeries within professional qualifications.
6. Extract teeth as necessary.
7. Clean teeth through scaling calculus.
8. Address infections of teeth, mouth, and gums with appropriate medications or surgical procedures.
9. Maintain detailed records of dental treatments provided to individuals.
10. Advise individuals on dental health practices.
11. Instruct and supervise paraprofessional dental staff in auxiliary duties.
12. Additional duties and travel expectations will be discussed during the interview.
Minimum Qualifications:
This position is open to the public and is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS).
* Possession of a valid license and current registration to practice dentistry in New York State.
* Must maintain a valid New York State dental license and registration.
