Job Description
We are looking for a caregiver to assist the manager of a home for children and young people with complex emotional and behavioural needs. The role supports a safe and caring environment in accordance with childcare legislation, national standards, and the organisation’s policies.
Key Responsibilities
Assist the home manager to ensure care practices comply with relevant legislation and best practice.
Supervise and manage the home’s day‑to‑day operations and contribute to the assessment, planning and implementation of individual care plans.
Facilitate good communication and decision making between young people, families and the support team.
Promote high standards of emotional and physical care and safety for all residents to meet their needs and promote positive outcomes.
Attend and contribute to planning meetings, statutory reviews and other meetings, representing the home and acting as an advocate for the young people and families.
Foster positive relationships with parents, social workers, teachers, doctors and other professionals and advocate for the young person’s needs, views and wishes.
Integrate the Model of therapeutic care in the home’s practices and monitor its application.
Conduct regular audits of care standards and practices within the home.
Staff Management
Provide leadership and guidance; assist the Home Manager in organising and managing staff to maintain 24‑hour cover and consistent care.
Assist with induction, supervision, written reports, handovers and appraisals.
Promote a positive culture of learning and develop an annual team training plan.
Management Of Finances
Assist with budgetary control and ensure systems and policy are followed.
Other
Create a homely setting that children can identify with.
Uphold a safe environment meeting legal requirements, including building, grounds, equipment and vehicle maintenance.
Promote high standard of childcare practice.
Advance professional skills through supervision and courses aligned with the training plan.
Participate in a duty rota and undertake sleeping‑in duties if required.

Required Criteria
3 years’ experience within children’s residential care.
Minimum level 7 in a relevant field.
