Job Purpose
1. To provide quality early childhood care and education to children
2. To,guide, observe, stimulate and supervise children in a safe and caring environment.
3. To work in close co-operation with the Manager and the other team members
4. To act, if required, as a key worker to specified children
5. Ensure the safety, security and wellbeing of all children in your care
6. To assist in the planning and implementation of an age-appropriate programme of activities which will enhance
7. the childs natural growth and development.
8. To ensure all quality and safety standards are always maintained in the service.
9. Care and Well-Being
10. To be kind and attentive to the children in your care
11. To deal with issues as they arise in relation to the well-being of children
12. To communicate to children at their level
13. To use positive strategies in supporting children through challenging behaviour
14. To carry out planned and unplanned observations using the observation system and materials
Curriculum/Activities
15. To participate and assist in the planning and implementation of the set curriculum
16. To support childrens emergent interests
17. To introduce children to the play equipment based on their individual needs
18. To provide opportunities for self-directed play
Health and Safety
19. To report any safety hazards/risks to Management immediately
20. To refrain from engaging in any activity that poses a risk to you, other members of staff or children
21. To have a good knowledge of fire and safety procedures within the service
22. To maintain a safe, clean and healthy environment
23. To participate in cleaning duties as required
Administration
24. To maintain appropriate records and documents in compliance with the Child Care 1991 (Early Years Services)
25. Regulations 2016. Records may include the childs progress, recording observations, accidents records, medicine
26. records etc.
Member of Staff Team Responsibilities
27. To work in close co-operation with the Manager and other staff members
28. To ensure that you respect the rights of children in your care
29. To work as part of a team, fostering good working relationships within the team
30. To greet parents and children in a friendly, positive and courteous manner
31. To have a neat and tidy appearance
Communication
32. To communicate frequently with the team members/ manager/ and parents as appropriate
33. To communicate in a straightforward, accurate, and professional manner and not to engage in unnecessary social
34. conversations when working and supervising children.
Training and Meetings
35. To undertake first aid training, fire safety and manual handling, as required
36. To attend and participate at meetings, as required.

The successful candidate must have
Minimum: QQI Level 6
QQI Level 7/8 desired.
