POST OF TEMPORARY FULL TIME STAFF NURSE/ENHANCED NURSE

This post is primarily located in Crannog Children’s Respite Service, providing a respite service to children 6–18 years with diverse needs, including physical disability, complex medical needs, autism, and behavioural needs. It may also involve cover hours in other Children’s Services such as Crannmor Respite, Rosedale School, and the Child Development Centres in Galway City.
Candidates will be required to be completely flexible and able to work a variety of hours, including day and night duty, sleep‑ins, and public holidays.
The Role
To support the implementation of children’s individualised developmental and educational programmes and work with multidisciplinary and staff teams to maximise benefit for the children.
To provide clinical nursing skills in supporting children with complex needs, maintaining the highest quality of nursing practice, and ensuring developmental, learning, physical, social, and emotional needs are addressed at all times. To be an informed resource for educating and supporting care assistants and family members.

Qualifications / Experience
A current Live Register Certificate from the NMBI (An Bord Altranais); an RNID qualification is highly desirable.
At least six months of experience working with children or in an intellectual disability setting.
A full clean manual Irish driving licence (Class B) is desirable.
Fluency in verbal and written English is essential.
Basic IT skills are desirable.

Working Hours
75 hours per fortnight based on a 7‑day/night duty roster. Workdays, evenings, weekends, public holidays, night duty, and sleep‑ins are required.
Annual Leave
24 days pro rata per annum; service‑related leave after 5 and 10 years of service.
Remuneration
Department of Health salary scales as at 01/02/2026 apply: Staff Nurse – €37,788 to €54,412 pro rata per annum; Enhanced Nurse – €44,811 to €56,200 pro rata per annum. Long service increment after 3 years. Additional payments for weekends, public holidays, sleep‑ins and night duty, and a location allowance of €2,637 per annum if the service meets criteria.
Tenure
The post is temporary, full time and pensionable, linked on a specific purpose basis to a permanent staff member’s career break.
Probation
Probationary period of nine months, with possible extension; employment may be terminated during probation for unsuitability.
