The Opportunity
Join a growing and future-focused team shaping the next phase of energy transmission across the UK and Ireland.
Reporting to the HVDC Local Service Centre (LSC) Manager, you will lead the development of high-quality, competitive, and profitable tenders for both existing and future HVDC service customers across the UK and Ireland.
You will own the full tendering lifecycle—from understanding customer requirements through to bid preparation, risk review, negotiation, contract finalisation, and seamless handover to project execution.
This role blends technical HVDC/power systems expertise with strong commercial acumen, making it an excellent opportunity for an engineer eager to expand into customer-facing tendering and sales for a fast-growing service business.
How You'll Make an Impact
Take full ownership of assigned tenders and ensure complete, compliant, and on-time submissions.
Drive technical and commercial negotiations with customers.
Define scope, prepare costings, and work closely with Sales to set margins and pricing.
Identify and evaluate technical, commercial, and contractual risks.
Conduct structured risk reviews with engineering, project management, legal, SCM, and finance.
Ensure tenders are clear, competitive, and aligned with internal governance requirements.
Gather technical and commercial inputs from engineering, Global Service Centre (GSC) tendering, operations, and factory teams.
Evaluate supplier and subcontractor proposals and integrate them into tender solutions.
Support Sales during early pursuit stages and customer negotiations.
Analyse won/lost tenders and recommend improvements.
Maintain accurate tender documentation and reporting.
Support development of marketing strategies, account plans, and market analyses for the region.
Build strong relationships with the GSC and customers through visits, presentations, and account management.
Promote the HVDC service portfolio and identify new opportunities in the UK&I market.
Ensure compliance with Hitachi Energy's Quality, HSE, and ethical standards.
Your Background
Degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent experience).
Proven experience in sales/tendering within industrial, power systems, transportation, or similar engineering drive sectors.
Track record of leading tenders for complex, international, or high value projects.
Knowledge of HV substations, power conversion, or power supply systems.
Strong commercial awareness and understanding of tendering processes.
Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
Ability to work effectively in cross functional, multinational teams and manage variable workloads.
Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Full driving licence and willingness to travel for customer meetings.
Fluent English (additional languages an advantage).
Qualified individuals with a disability may request a reasonable accommodation if you are unable or limited in your ability to use or access the Hitachi Energy career site as a result of your disability.
You may request reasonable accommodations by completing a general inquiry form on our website.
Please include your contact information and specific details about your required accommodation to support you during the job application process.
