Education and/or Teacher Training, Engineering and/or Technology, Medical Sciences
We have two intern positions available in our medical simulation team. The interns will work across both the Surgical Skills laboratory and the medical simulation suites. This will enable the intern to gain valuable skills in both technical and non-technical medical simulation, medical English, and clinical teaching. Ideal for individuals with a background in medical sciences, biomedical engineering, nursing, or other healthcare studies.
Surgical Skills Laboratory Duties
* Assist in preparation and processing of cadaveric, xenogeneic, and/or explanted tissue for surgical simulation training sessions.
* Assist with instrument setup: set up necessary instruments, materials, and apparatus following standard operating procedures.
* Assist with instrument cleaning, maintenance of surgical instruments, and/or devices for training sessions.
* Assist in maintaining an organized inventory of materials, supplies, and equipment to ensure the smooth operation of the laboratory.
* Comply with health and safety regulations within the laboratory to maintain a safe working environment.
* Uphold a high level of cleanliness in the laboratory due to the sensitive nature of the materials used.
* Perform waste marshalling duties following established protocols to ensure proper disposal and management.
* Physical Requirements: Ability to lift and move heavy equipment and work in a physically demanding environment.
Simulation Suites
* Assist with set-up and clearing away clinical and simulation equipment for skills/simulation sessions and examinations.
* Assist with the preparation of manikins, for example, insertion of nasogastric tubes, catheterization, moulage, etc., in accordance with specified requirements and protocols.
* Assist with the preparation and clearing away of task trainers, in accordance with specified requirements and protocols.
* Ensure an adequate supply of required consumables for all skills/simulation sessions.
* Perform routine upkeep and regular cleaning of clinical and teaching equipment, reporting faults in accordance with protocols.
* Perform manual handling tasks, such as moving materials within the ASSERT Centre, between storerooms, skills rooms, and lecture theatres, including moving beds and other equipment.
* Assist with organizing the ASSERT storerooms, including maintaining adequate stock levels and a safe working environment. Inform supervisors when stocks are low.
* Assist in the annual stock take of equipment and consumables.
* Manage deliveries in accordance with standard operating procedures.
* Perform general office duties, such as handling enquiries, maintaining sign-in records, preparing documents, and greeting students.
* Coordinate communication and handover to the ASSERT team.
* Communicate with other teams within Brookfield, such as facilities management, security, and other clinical skills departments within the College of Medicine and Health.
* Utilize technological applications to source resources/protocols and maintain records of activities and procedures.
* Ensure compliance with Health & Safety, infection control standards, policies, and other procedures.
