A.I Governance, Policy & Technology Specialist - 3 month contract
The AI Governance, Policy and Technology Specialistwill be responsible for developing, implementing, and advising on policies and governance frameworks related to artificial intelligence (AI). The role involves ensuring compliance with evolving AI regulations (European and Government regulations), ethical standards, and best practices, particularly within government departments and legal frameworks. The specialist will engage with Office members and key stakeholders to gather an understating of the Office and its needs so as to enable them to shape responsible AI strategies that align with legal and ethical considerations.
Additionally, the specialist will lead an internal AI Committee, bringing together key stakeholders from various areas of the Office to oversee and develop AI governance, assess risks, and ensure responsible AI adoption across the Office. This role is initially offered on a 3 month, project specific contract.
Essential Job Functions
The candidate must have expert knowledge in:
·Developing and implementing AI governance frameworks, policies, and compliance strategies.
·Monitor and analyse regulatory developments related to AI, data protection, and emerging technologies.
·Provide guidance on AI risk management, ethical AI principles, and responsible AI deployment.
·Provide guidance on AI technologies and where they would be applicable internally
·Conduct impact assessments for AI systems to ensure alignment with legal and ethical standards.
·Develop internal guidelines and best practices for AI use
·Support training and awareness programs on AI ethics, governance, and compliance.
·Chair and lead an internal AI committee, facilitating discussions on AI governance, risk management, and organisational AI strategies.
·Coordinate Cross-Office efforts to align AI initiatives with legal and ethical frameworks
Essential Requirements/Experience
·Strong understanding of AI governance, ethics, and regulatory frameworks (e.g., EU AI Act, OECD AI Principles).
·Experience working with or within government agencies, legal teams, or regulatory bodies.
·Knowledge of data privacy laws (e.g., GDPR) and their intersection with AI.
·Ability to analyse and interpret legal and policy documents related to AI.
·Strong leadership and stakeholder engagement skills, with experience leading committees or cross-functional teams.
·Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience in policy writing or advisory roles.
Desirable Requirements/Experience
·Experience in legislative or regulatory processes related to AI or technology governance.
·Background in law, public policy, or regulatory affairs, with a focus on technology or AI.
·Familiarity with AI risk assessment methodologies and responsible AI frameworks.
·Experience engaging with policymakers, industry groups, or AI ethics committees.
·Knowledge of international AI governance trends and standards.
