About the School of Population Health Established in ****, the School of Population Health (SPH) builds on existing strengths at RCSI in behavioural science for population health, analytic and population health sciences.
The School comprises the Department of Public Health and Epidemiology, Department of Health Psychology, Data Science Centre, Healthcare Outcomes Research Centre (HORC), Institute of Global Surgery and SPHeRE (Structured Population health, Policy and Health Services Research Education – national doctoral programme).
It included some 100 academic, research and professional staff, as well as 38 PhD scholars.
Population health scientists and researchers at RCSI have an impressive, multi-year track record undertaking impactful multi-disciplinary research and collaborating with an extensive network of international and national partners.
Role summary: The successful candidate will support the running of LOSTSIGHT, a research project funded under the Irish Research Council's New Foundations scheme.
The aim of the project is to examine the prevalence and trajectory of depression and anxiety among older adults living with sight loss, assess longitudinal associations, and identify risk factors using longitudinal data from The Irish Longitudinal Study on Ageing (TILDA).
The Research Assistant will play a key role in preparing datasets, conducting statistical analyses, and supporting dissemination activities.
Specifically, the duties of the post are: • Co-ordination of own day-to-day work to support the project, and to undertake duties assigned by the PI in support of the research area.
• Prepare and manage longitudinal datasets (merging five TILDA waves, selecting variables, cleaning data).
• Conduct descriptive and inferential statistical analyses (e.g., mixed-effects regression models).
• Assist with interpretation of findings and drafting of scientific manuscripts.
• Liaise with the Principal Investigator and project partners, including civic society partner Fighting Blindness and PPI contributors.
• Support knowledge exchange activities (e.g., plain-language summaries, policy briefs, webinars).
• Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with data protection and ethical standards.
Qualifications: • Degree in a relevant discipline, such as psychology, biostatistics, social science, allied health disciplines or related disciplines relevant to the research topic.
