Location: Brothers of Charity Services Ireland - West Region.
The Brothers of Charity Services Ireland West Region offer services to people with an intellectual disability in Galway City and County, and Roscommon.
Responsibilities To support adults in the West Sector, and on specific referrals, adults in the East Sector and Children Sector, with an intellectual disability who present with behaviours that challenge, to assist them to cope with and change the conditions that influence and maintain their behaviour.
This is to improve quality of life and support progress toward personal outcomes.
Contribute to assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of specialised interventions in line with the five core CNS concepts in the NCNM framework (4th edition, 2008).
Work as a key member of the Multi-Disciplinary Team, providing of comprehensive integrated supports for the individual, family, frontline staff and wider multidisciplinary team.
Operate as part of a peripatetic service with other colleagues; focus on major clinical activity including assessment, planning, implementing and evaluating supports.
Conduct observations and implement interventions primarily in the setting where the person supported lives or works; may require late evenings and weekends as service needs require.
Where required, engage in individual sessional work with the individual in their office via an appointment system.
Report to Adult West Sector Manager through identified local Area Managers.
Qualifications/Experience/Skills Be a Registered Nurse preferably Intellectual Disability (RNID) on the live Register of Nurses kept by An Bord Altranais agus Cnaimhseachais Na hÉireann (NMBI).
Hold a level 9 (or higher) post-registration qualification relevant to Behaviour Support.
Applicable to CNS/CNS Candidate applicants: for Nurses with a level 8 qualification in Behaviour Support (60 ECTS or above), this qualification is recognised up to September 2026.
A minimum of 1 year of practice experience and 1 year of experience in Behaviour Support; applicant will be supported to progress on a candidate CNS Pathway within 2 years.
Hold at least 5 years post-registration experience supporting adults with an intellectual disability.
Have a minimum of three years working with people who present with behaviours that challenge.
Demonstrate a thorough understanding of the Positive Behaviour Support framework and be able to pragmatically demonstrate it.
possess a current full clean manual driving licence (essential).
Fluency in verbal and written English (essential).
Adequate IT skills (essential).
Working Hours / Location75 hours a fortnight based on a 5-day week duty roster.
Contracted hours may change between 8am–8pm to meet service needs, including weekends and public holidays.
The service model requires flexibility in working hours to provide quality service delivery for each individual.
Annual Leave25 days per annum.
Service related leave — 1 day after 5 years nursing service and a further 2 days after 10 years nursing service.
Remuneration Department of Health Clinical Nurse Specialist salary scale 01/08/2025 - €61,463 x 9 increments - €75,405 (Max) per annum.
Long Service Increment €77,666 after 3 years at max.
CNS Candidate salary scale 01/08/2025 - €56,642 x7 increments - €66,705 (max) per annum.
Tenure This post is permanent full-time and pensionable (subject to meeting the qualification essential criteria).
Probation A probationary period of nine months from the date of appointment applies.
Employment may be terminated during probation if unsuitable; extending may be at the Employer's discretion.
