Senior Physiotherapist - Older Persons Rehabilitation Based at Blarney Rehabilitation Unit and any buildings within the Mercy University Hospital (MUH) Complex.
Permanent Contract, Full Time Hours.
Blarney Rehabilitation Unit Service Blarney Rehabilitation Unit is a newly developed post-acute care rehabilitation unit.
It is made up of 50 beds located off site from the MUH.
It remains under the governance of the MUH.
The Rehabilitation Services program delivers specialist post-acute care, focusing on patient-centered reablement to help patients achieve optimal functionality and independence following illness or injury.
This service emphasizes seamless transitions of care between hospital and home, integrating multidisciplinary expertise to support patient recovery.
Senior Physiotherapist Principal Duties and Responsibilities: Responsible for comprehensive assessment, planning, implementation, and review of treatment / intervention programmes in line with best practice for older persons rehabilitation, managing workload in accordance with the needs of the role.
Responsible for goal setting in partnership with client with rehabilitation needs, their family and other team members using their specialist clinical skills and knowledge.
Be an exemplar for the clinical physiotherapy care of patients.
Make autonomous decisions with/on behalf of the patient, to augment and support their health potential and to promote continuity of care.
Collaborate with the MDT in discharge planning or transfer of care between wards and services as appropriate.
Provide advice and support to physiotherapy and multidisciplinary colleagues on clinical practice issues.
Maintain clinical records in accordance with local, hospital and professional guidelines, and be involved in documentation audits, providing data on a regular basis as required by the HSE, MUH ( Mercy University Hospital ), NRH for CARF ( Commission for Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities ) requirements.
Communicate verbally and/or in writing results of assessments, treatment / intervention programmes and recommendations to the team and relevant others in accordance with service policy.
Attend outreach clinics, review meetings, team meetings, case conferences, ward rounds etc. as required and at varied locations.
Participate in multi-professional treatment sessions.
Communicate with the patient's GP and relevant community staff in relation to the patient's condition when required.
Liaise with colleagues in the community to facilitate the integration of care between primary and secondary care.
Liaise with the Palliative care team for end-of-life issues where appropriate.
Assess the effectiveness of patient's medication in consultation with the Consultant or GP.
Arrange and perform duties in a timely manner within settings appropriate to service users' needs and in line with local policy / guidelines.
Maintain departmental and hospital standards of practice and participate in quality assurance and clinical audit as appropriate, mindful of CARF requirements and local policies.
Serve on and advise such committees that may be set up relevant to this area of clinical specialty.
Record and collate statistics to reflect work undertaken and provide data as required by the Physiotherapy Manager.
Maintain professional standards in relation to confidentiality, ethics, and legislation.
Operate within the rules of Professional Conduct as assigned by CORU and the Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapy.
Participate in on-call and weekend working arrangements at MUH and maintain competency in accordance with departmental policy.
Undertake other appropriate responsibilities consistent with the nature of the post.
Eligibility Criteria - Candidates must, on the latest date for receiving completed applications:
(a) Possess the Bachelor in Physiotherapy (Hons.) or B.Sc.
Physiotherapy (Hons) degree from the National University of Ireland or University of Dublin, OR
(b) Possess the Diploma in Physiotherapy of the University of Dublin or the National University of Ireland, OR Possess a qualification in Physiotherapy at least equivalent to
(a) or
(b) above, OR Be registered or be eligible for registration as a Physiotherapist by the Physiotherapist Registration Board at CORU.
AND Provide proof of Statutory Registration on the Physiotherapist Register maintained by the Physiotherapist Registration Board at CORU before a contract of employment can be issued.
On appointment, practitioners must maintain annual registration on the Physiotherapist register maintained by the Physiotherapist Registration Board at CORU.
Practitioners must confirm annual registration with CORU to the HSE by way of the annual Patient Safety Assurance Certificate (PSAC).
Have had at least three years satisfactory post qualification experience, some of which must be in Rehabilitation or Neurorehabilitation, particularly the management of older persons following acute hospital admission (medical and/or surgical).
Have CPD relevant to the area.
Availability for on-call and weekend rota as required in line with the terms and conditions.
Eligibility Criteria - Desirable: Membership of Clinical Interest Group(s).
Post graduate education in Rehabilitation or Neurorehabilitation or specific experience working with these client groups.
