Postdoctoral Researcher, Characterisation Scientist: Multi-Attribute Method

2 year contract

Dublin

Role Summary

Our Biopharmaceutical client is looking for a Postdoctoral Researcher to join their team. In collaboration with a leading biopharmaceutical manufacturer, this role will focus on optimisation of various aspects of the multi-attribute method (MAM) to deliver a robust solution using liquid chromatography coupled to high-resolution mass spectrometry that can be deployed within the routine testing environment. The role will identify, investigate and eliminate sources of variability during sample preparation that may cause unwanted modification of the therapeutics under study, which could otherwise skew the resulting analytical data.

Responsibilities

* You will investigate the root causes of unwanted sample preparation induced modifications on therapeutic proteins during standard workflows used prior to LC-MS based MAM.
* You will use other analytical instrumental approaches, for example, inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) for the analysis of trace elements or others as necessary to investigate root causes of modification.
* You will investigate how optimised workflows for sample preparation for MAM may be automated, again identifying, investigating and eliminating any potential source of sample preparation induced modification from the workflow.
* You will interact with the industrial sponsor with the highest levels of professionalism and use your project management skills to ensure that experiments are conducted, reported and disseminated according to the agreed project schedule.
* You’ll participate in the training and networking activities to ensure that you grow and develop as a scientist, both technically and professionally, bearing in mind that you will be an ambassador for the company in all your activities.
* Create and maintain high quality documentation and you’ll actively publish and present your research outputs.

Requirements

* You hold a PhD or have submitted a doctoral thesis for examination in a discipline which the use and application of mass spectrometry instrumentation played a major component.
* You have experience in liquid chromatography mass spectrometry, ideally for therapeutic protein and peptide characterisation.
* You will have a solid understanding of protein chemistry and apply that to develop mitigation and elimination strategies to avoid sample preparation induced modifications, delivering a robust solution that can be transferred into the routine testing environment.
* You’ll be self-driven, passionate and committed to delivering robust solutions for the collaborative sponsor, motivated by inquisitiveness and excellent analytical rigour to understand key research challenges and develop appropriate solutions that directly translate into tangible impact.
* You understand the complexities of therapeutic protein characterisation, particularly peptide centred workflows and the intricacies of the use and application of LC-MS and subsequent data processing to deliver excellent analytical solutions.
* You have broad analytical awareness and including interest in the state-of-the-art and movements within the field, such as automation and integration of workflows.
* You’re a passionate communicator who is well able to articulate their science using written and verbal English to specialist and non-specialist audiences.
* You’re curious and ambitious, you have a track record of proposing and performing excellent analytical science which drives you to achieve. You can actively demonstrate this through your publication record to date.
