The ideal candidates will have extensive experience in high voltage (HV) substation design, with a focus on primary plant layouts, protection schemes, and project coordination.Key Responsibilities for the Electrical Engineer:Design & Review: Lead the design and review of HV substation systems, including primary plant layout, cable arrangements, earthing, lightning protection, indoor/outdoor lighting, instrument transformer sizing, protection schemes, and IED selection.Project Lifecycle: Provide engineering design input through all stages of electrical power infrastructure development, from feasibility and front-end engineering to detailed design, site construction monitoring, and commissioning.Coordination: Work closely with internal disciplines, such as civil, structural, environmental, geotechnical, transport, protection and control, and CAD/BIM teams.Design Compliance: Undertake comprehensive design reviews to ensure compliance with applicable standards and industry guidelines.HV Plant Design Calculations: Perform calculations for instrument transformer suitability, battery and charger sizing, surge arrester selection, busbar forces, HV cable design, earthing studies, insulation coordination, and arc flash studies.Equipment Expertise: Demonstrate a strong understanding of HV plant equipment, including AIS and GIS platforms, circuit breakers, transformers, disconnectors, earthing switches, control/protection panels, and switchgear.Technical Submittals: Prepare and monitor technical submittals for approval.Construction & Commissioning: Provide support and oversight during the construction and commissioning phases of projects.Key Requirements as an Electrical Engineer:Experience: Extensive experience in the power transmission and distribution industry, with hands-on expertise in substation design.Qualifications: A Level 7 or 8 degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Services Engineering, or Building Services Engineering. Candidates should ideally be or working towards Chartered Engineer status.Project Lifecycle Knowledge: Experience across all stages of the project lifecycle, including design, construction, and commissioning.Health & Safety: Strong understanding of applying regulatory and client-specific health and safety requirements to HV plant system designs.Technical Reporting: Proficient in preparing technical reports in English.Software Skills: Familiarity with key engineering software, including Dialux, Relux, Amtech, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office.
