Overview:
An established planning and environmental consultancy based in Galway City is looking to hire an Assistant Town Planner to support a growing portfolio of diverse planning and development projects across Ireland. This is an excellent opportunity for a graduate or early-career professional with a strong foundation in town planning to join a dynamic and client-focused team.
Working on a variety of projects ranging from residential schemes and commercial developments to public realm and strategic infrastructure, the role offers genuine career progression and exposure to every stage of the planning process.
The Opportunity:
You will assist with the preparation of planning applications and appeals, liaise with clients and local authorities, and contribute to the delivery of high-quality planning reports and development assessments. The position is ideal for someone looking to gain hands-on experience in both planning policy and development management within a collaborative, multi-disciplinary environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist in preparing planning applications, including Planning Statements and supporting documentation
Undertake site visits and contribute to project research, report writing, and assessments
Liaise with clients, architects, engineers, and local authority planners
Support the preparation of planning appeals and observations
Contribute to planning submissions for Development Plans and Local Area Plans
Help coordinate technical consultants and manage planning documentation throughout the application process
About You:
A degree in Town Planning, Urban Planning, or a related discipline (postgraduate preferred)
Working toward RTPI or IPI membership (or equivalent)
Strong understanding of Irish planning legislation, policy, and development standards
Excellent communication, report writing, and organisational skills
A proactive attitude and willingness to learn in a fast-paced consultancy environment
Full driving licence preferred (due to occasional site visits)
