**Job Title:** Environmental Health and Safety Lead- Food Industry
As a seasoned EHS professional, you will lead day-to-day management of EHS operations, including in absence of the EHS Manager.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead the day-to-day operations of the EHS department.
* Regularly review and update risk assessments, safe operating procedures, work instructions, and site's safety statement.
* Monitor and analyse incident reports and safety metrics; ensure daily performance statistics are compiled and presented to the operations team.
* Oversee prompt investigation and documentation of accidents, incidents, and near misses.
* Support managers in developing and implementing corrective actions.
* Manage the internal audit program; conduct safety inspections, generate reports, and coordinate with department representatives to ensure timely close-out of findings.
* Proactively identify opportunities for safety performance improvement and support the development of site-wide EHS initiatives in collaboration with the EHS Manager.
* Support preparation and readiness for external regulatory and compliance audits.
* Co-coordinate safety-related training, ensuring all mandatory and ongoing training needs are met on schedule.
* Maintain and update the training matrix.
* Create and deliver EHS communications, including toolbox talks and safety alerts, to reinforce a strong safety culture across the site.
* Manage site emergency preparedness programs, including fire and chemical safety, and workplace vehicle protocols.
* Oversee contractor safety in partnership with the engineering dept; deliver contractor training, reviewing documentation, and conduct audits of contractor activities.
Essential Skills & Qualifications:
* Excellent Communication Skills - clearly explain safety procedures across all levels of the organisation.
* Experience managing a team.
* Able to hit the ground running.
* Level 8 qualification in H&S or a related discipline.
* 1-3 years' experience in a manufacturing or high-risk environment.
* Manual Handling Instructor certification.
* Train the Trainer qualification.
* Occupational First Aid certification.
* Good attention to detail, with excellent administrative, reporting, and literacy skills.
* Proficient in Microsoft Office and EHS-related software platforms.
* Self-motivated and able to work independently.-capable of working as part of a cross-functional team.
* Be able to undertake some travel.
