Kilronan Castle Estate & Spa is an award-winning luxury hotel set within 50 acres of scenic woodland and lakeside grounds in County Roscommon. Central to this philosophy is our kitchen garden, which provides seasonal produce and fresh blooms for our restaurant, events, and guests.
Position Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Garden Attendant to support the cultivation and maintenance of the castle's flower and kitchen garden. This role involves hands-on work in growing high-quality vegetables, herbs, fruit, and cut flowers for the estate's culinary and decorative use.
The ideal candidate will have a love of horticulture, a strong work ethic, and a keen interest in sustainable growing practices.
Key Responsibilities
* Assist in the day-to-day upkeep of the flower and kitchen garden, including planting, weeding, watering, pruning, and harvesting.
* Support the growth of seasonal vegetables, herbs, and fruits used by the estate's culinary team.
* Cultivate and care for a variety of flowers and foliage for decorative arrangements throughout the castle.
* Maintain soil health through composting, mulching, and organic growing methods.
* Assist with propagation, seed sowing, and greenhouse care.
* Monitor plant health and identify pests or diseases, reporting issues promptly to the Head Gardener.
* Harvest and prepare produce and flowers for delivery to the kitchen team.
* Maintain garden tools, equipment, and workspaces in clean and safe condition.
* Contribute to the ongoing development and improvement of the garden's layout and productivity.
* Ensure all work is carried out with respect for the environment and the estate's sustainability goals.
Requirements & Qualifications
* Previous experience in horticulture, vegetable growing, or flower gardening.
* Knowledge of seasonal growing cycles, organic or sustainable gardening methods, and plant care.
* Strong attention to detail and pride in producing high-quality results.
* Must be prepared to perform outdoor manual work in all weather conditions.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a small, dedicated team.
* Flexibility with working hours, including occasional weekend or early-morning duties.
* Horticultural qualification or relevant certification (desirable but not essential).
