Summary of Post The School of Pharmacy and Biomolecular Sciences, RCSI, wishes to recruit an enthusiastic and innovative individual to the role of Lecturer in Artificial Intelligence in Health. The purpose of the job is to deliver education and research that will have a lasting impact on health and care and research-led education and training. You will use and develop novel approaches to deliver on our education programmes in this area as well as developing research methodologies to improve healthcare by helping to understand, diagnose, monitor or treat disease and thus benefiting patients and the wider population through research translation, prevention, system performance and optimised care. It is expected that research will be internationally competitive, disseminated widely and will have significant impact in health fields globally. New funding will need to be sought to maintain and grow self-sustaining research. Applicants will also be expected to contribute to /undertake any associated management and administrative duties. Objective of this post are to: Contribute to and participate in the design, development and delivery of the School's educational programmes at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, including, but not limited to, BSc 'Advanced Therapeutic Technologies' & MSc 'Technologies and Analytics in Precision Medicine'. Provide a wide range of skills and expertise in areas including, but not limited to, applications of AI in Health. In particular, the applicant should have broad understanding of Machine Learning/Deep Learning (e.g. Neural Networks), Advanced Statistical Models applicable to analysis of various data types including digital health data. Sustain an independent and highly productive research profile aligned with established priority areas of research within the School and across RCSI. Specific Responsibilities include: Teaching: Preparation, delivery and assessment in the broad curricular areas of Machine Learning/Artificial Intelligence in Health, on our undergraduate and post-graduate programmes, as required, ensuring at all times that teaching material is innovative, up-to-date and in line with international best practice, Demonstrate a student-centred approach to all duties to ensure optimal educational outcomes. Lead and/or advise on modules within various educational programmes. Participate in cross-functional teams to design and deliver academic programmes. Contribute to the quality assurance/quality improvement and accreditation of all programmes delivered in the School. Participate in the delivery of our teaching learning, assessment and feedback strategy including the effective use of technology-enhanced learning. Maintain and develop the School's relationship with clinical and industrial teaching/placement sites (as appropriate). Research: Engage in internationally competitive innovative research and knowledge transfer activities in the area of Artificial Intelligence in Health, aligned to designated areas of priority for the School and the College. These areas of priority are within the broad themes of: Biomaterials, Medical devices and Pharmaceutical Sciences; Cancer; Vascular Biology and Cardiology, Population Health & Health Services, Surgical Science and Practice, Neurological & Psychiatric Disorders, Respiratory and Critical Care. Actively seek funding to support these, either independently or as part of a team, and generate high impact research outputs consistent with expectations at this level. Contribute to and support ongoing academic and industry-based research collaborations within the School, nationally and internationally. Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate research projects across the School of Pharmacy and Biomolecular Sciences. Contribute to School thesis review committees as required. Service: Comply with statutory legislation and departmental rules and requirements in furtherance of your own, staff and student welfare and safety. Competent discharge of academic administrative duties and engagement across the School and Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, in aspects such as attendance at examination boards, team meetings, interviewing prospective students, attendance at Open Days, outreach events etc. Support activities to realise RCSI's vision in embedding AI and digital health in education and research practices Promote the best interests of RCSI at all times, enhancing the School's reputation in both research and education. Support students through student centered initiatives, such as personal tutoring/mentoring, and other initiatives, as appropriate. Foster and supporting links with national and international academic partners. Perform such other duties as may be required from time to time. Qualifications - (Essential): Has a PhD degree or equivalent in Machine Learning/Artificial Intelligence, Computational Biology, Computer Science or related area Knowledge & Experience - (Essential): Has clear and demonstrable experience in the delivery of teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in the areas of Artificial Intelligence in Health or closely aligned areas Has a teaching related qualification (desired). Has a sustained track record of both senior authorship of papers in high quality peer-reviewed journals and of securing competitive grant funding in areas related to Artificial Intelligence in Health Has experience of supervising undergraduate and postgraduate research students Can function effectively within a team, using clear and effective communication. Requires minimum direction to effectively deliver on assigned functions, and demonstrates a positive, student-centred and solution focused approach to addressing challenges and ambiguity. Has flexibility to work irregular hours on occasion.
