DESCRIPTION
AWS is set to introduce the inaugural European Sovereign Cloud (ESC), marking a significant development in utility computing (UC). We are actively seeking experienced systems development engineers with a strong background in automation and operations to lead this initiative. As part of the AWS Managed Operations team, you will play a pivotal role in building and leading operations and development teams dedicated to delivering high-availability AWS services, including EC2, S3, Dynamo, Lambda, and Bedrock, exclusively for EU customers. Utility Computing (UC)
AWS Utility Computing (UC) provides product innovations—from foundational services such as Amazon S3 and EC2 to new product features that set AWS apart in the industry. As a member of the UC organization, you'll support the development and management of Compute, Database, Storage, IoT, Platform, and Productivity Apps services, including support for customers requiring specialized security solutions.
Eligibility requirements
* Fluency in written and spoken English
* Applicants must have the legal right to work in Ireland
* Relocation support will be provided for successful applicants relocating within the EU
Key job responsibilities
Your responsibilities will focus on transforming AWS operations infrastructure. You will design and implement systemic solutions to reduce operational complexity and costs across AWS regions, creating scalable automation systems to eliminate operational toil and standardize workflows. Collaboration with service teams, operational staff, and leadership will be essential to identify pain points and architect solutions that deliver lasting improvements. You may participate in "on-call" rotations to resolve incidents out of hours.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
* 5+ years of experience in software development or related field
* Proficient in at least one modern programming language such as Java, Typescript, Python, or Ruby
* Ability to troubleshoot from network to software applications
* Experience operating, troubleshooting, and tuning software applications and optimizing fleet utilization
* Strong understanding of network fundamentals (DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP, routing, load balancing)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
* Experience leading strategic team efforts
* Proficient with Infrastructure as Code tools (e.g., CDK, CloudFormation, Puppet, Chef, Ansible)
* Experience operating AWS services and with monitoring frameworks (e.g., CloudWatch, Datadog, Grafana)
* Scripting skills in Bash, Python, etc.
* Experience managing high-availability, distributed software applications
