Commercial Underwriter
Our client is a leading financial services provider in the automotive sector, specialising in innovative car finance, leasing, and servicing solutions. They support an extensive network of dealers and have a significant customer base across Ireland. The company is known for its commitment to quality service and market-leading financial products.
Reporting directly to the Head of Credit, the Commercial Underwriter will play a key role in managing the underwriting of credit line customers across retail, leasing, and wholesale corporate portfolios. This includes dealer wholesale funding, as well as retail and leasing credit lines. The successful candidate will be a self-motivated professional with strong analytical abilities and in-depth expertise in SME and corporate lending.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage retail, leasing, and wholesale corporate portfolios within delegated credit authority limits.
- Complete annual credit applications and renewals for corporate portfolio funding lines.
- Conduct quarterly reviews of corporate management accounts outside of annual reviews, highlighting high-risk areas to senior management.
- Act as the primary credit decision-maker (1st vote) for the corporate portfolio, including preparing and presenting cases to credit committees and headquarters when required.
- Ensure strict adherence to credit policies, procedures, and guidelines set both locally and by headquarters, maintaining high standards of credit quality.
- Conduct on-site customer reviews as necessary to support credit application processes and represent the credit function during meetings with existing and prospective customers.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with dealer partners to ensure optimal use of financial products aligned with their needs.
- Prepare and report on dealer and corporate financial trends, providing insights to management and the risk department as needed.
- Lead the annual review and implementation of European credit guidelines issued by headquarters.
- Manage submission of funding information, ensuring compliance with all annual deadlines.
- Collaborate effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders to deliver credit solutions and maximise new business opportunities.
- Perform other ad hoc duties as required to support the credit and commercial teams.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Third-level qualification in business, finance, or a related discipline, along with relevant financial services qualifications.
- FCCC certification in compliance with Minimum Competency Requirements (MCR) as regulated by the Financial Regulator or equivalent.
- Minimum of 5 years' experience in corporate credit line underwriting, with a strong focus on SME credit and corporate lending.
- Excellent analytical skills and meticulous attention to detail.
- Proven ability to build and sustain professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Comprehensive knowledge of corporate underwriting principles and SME credit regulations.
- Forward-thinking, professional, and technically proficient.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other MS Office applications.
- Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
