Role Overview
A well-established and growing construction consultancy is seeking an Associate / Associate Director level Quantity Surveyor to play a key leadership role within its cost management team.
This position offers the opportunity to lead major client projects, manage teams, contribute to business development, and help shape the strategic direction of the cost management function. The role suits a commercially astute QS with strong client-facing skills and experience delivering complex projects.
Key Responsibilities
Project & Client Leadership
* Lead the delivery of cost management services on large and complex projects from feasibility through to final account.
* Act as primary client contact on assigned projects, maintaining strong relationships and ensuring high service standards.
* Provide strategic cost advice to clients, including cost planning, procurement strategy, risk management, and value engineering.
Commercial & Technical Delivery
* Prepare and review cost plans, estimates, tender documentation, and procurement reports.
* Manage tender processes, tender analysis, contractor appointments, and contract administration.
* Monitor project costs, variations, change control, and financial reporting throughout construction.
* Advise clients on contract selection, commercial risk, and dispute avoidance/resolution.
Leadership & Team Management
* Lead, mentor, and develop Quantity Surveyors and Assistant QSs within the team.
* Review team outputs to ensure accuracy, consistency, and quality.
* Support resource planning, performance management, and professional development.
Business Development & Practice Growth
* Support business development activities including proposals, fee bids, and client presentations.
* Contribute to strategic planning, service development, and continuous improvement initiatives.
* Build internal and external networks to support business growth and market presence.
Governance & Best Practice
* Ensure compliance with internal quality systems, professional standards, and client governance requirements.
* Promote best practice in cost management, reporting, and use of digital tools.
Ideal Candidate Profile
Qualifications & Experience
* Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying, Construction Economics, or related discipline.
* Chartered (MRICS / MSCSI) or working towards chartership.
* 10+ years' experience
in a consultancy environment, with progression to Senior QS or Associate level.
* Proven track record delivering cost management services on medium to large-scale projects.
