Lead process optimisation, strategic asset replacement, and maintenance management at a high-volume meat packing facility. Drive operational efficiency, ensure compliance, and maintain business continuity while preparing for the mandatory transition to new refrigeration systems by 2030 under updated F-gas regulations.
Responsibilities
* Optimise production efficiency across packaging lines to reduce downtime and improve yield (maximising primal cut utilisation).
* Implement automation solutions (e.g., vision inspection systems, auto-loading) to enhance productivity.
* Monitor KPIs with the management accountant, including OEE, waste reduction (<0.7%), and energy consumption.
* Enhance health and safety through engineering solutions.
* Lead major capital replacement projects, including refrigeration replacement to meet 2030 F-gas phaseout requirements: manage vendor selection, budgeting, phased implementation, and vendor relationships.
* Contribute to a 5-year asset strategy for replacing ageing equipment (e.g., mincers, sealers, thermoformers).
* Ensure minimal disruption to over 20M annual retail pack output during upgrades, leveraging third-party engineering project management support if required.
* Manage a maintenance manager and a 5-FTE maintenance team to deliver preventative maintenance schedules, rapid breakdown response (<1-hour resolution), and continuous skills development.
Requirements
* 7+ years in food manufacturing engineering, including 3+ years in meat or poultry processing.
* Familiarity with industrial refrigeration systems (F-gas regulations, ammonia/CO₂ systems).
* Proficiency in CAD/plant design software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks).
* Strategic thinker able to balance immediate production needs with long-term projects.
* Strong influencer who can align operations, finance, and senior leadership.
