YOUR DAY-TO-DAY LIFE
We are looking for a Microbiology Laboratory Technician in Athgarvan Road, Newbridge, Co. Kildare, W12W951 IRL. Your mission will be to:
* Perform tasks allocated by the Laboratory Manager/Supervisor to the highest quality standards and inform them of any doubtful results.
* Assist in managing the daily implementation of our Quality Management System, ensuring compliance with ISO 17025, INAB, DAFM, RSA, and company requirements.
* Ensure daily checks on balances and temperature are completed and documented properly.
* Maintain good housekeeping standards, including proper preparation and segregation of pathogenic samples.
* Take responsibility for health and safety within the laboratory and escalate issues appropriately.
* Participate in the Proficiency Testing (PT) programme, analysing samples in a timely manner.
* Escalate issues related to health, safety, resources, or equipment to senior management.
* Conduct Internal Quality Control testing, trending, and analysis of spiked samples.
* Ensure all results are accurately calculated, checked, and entered into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) without delay.
YOUR PROFILE
* Minimum of 1 year of experience in an academic or professional laboratory environment.
* Knowledge of microbiology, chemistry, food technology, or related sciences.
* A degree in microbiology, food technology, or related fields.
* Strong communication skills for effective teamwork.
* Proficiency in aseptic techniques to prevent contamination.
* Ability to handle and culture various microorganisms, including bacteria, yeast, and molds.
* Experience with sample preparation, homogenisation, dilution, and plating.
* Knowledge of microbial identification using selective and differential media.
* Understanding of safe handling of hazardous chemicals and biological materials.
* Skill in statistical analysis and interpretation of microbiological data.
* Proficiency in microbial enumeration and identification techniques, such as plate counting, MPN, and PCR.
* Problem-solving skills and ability to operate and maintain laboratory equipment like autoclaves, incubators, and PCR machines.
