This role involves carrying out maintenance activities on national, regional, and local road networks, operating a range of vehicles and equipment, and ensuring safe, efficient day-to-day road operations.
Key Responsibilities
1. Drive a variety of road maintenance vehicles, including winter service/gritting vehicles.
2. Perform maintenance tasks such as grass and hedge cutting, small drainage repairs, gully cleaning, litter picking, boundary and safety fence repairs, and minor surfacing or civil works.
3. Install and operate traffic management systems on high-speed roads.
4. Complete required paperwork and record sheets accurately.
5. Follow all health & safety procedures and promote safe working practices.
6. Carry out "watchman" duties by reporting issues on the network.
7. Communicate effectively with colleagues and the public when needed.
8. Support emergency services during incident response.
9. Perform additional duties appropriate to the role as required.
Skills & Requirements
10. Full HGV driving licence.
11. Relevant CSCS accreditation.
12. Certification in Signing, Lighting & Guarding at Roadworks and Traffic Management on High-Speed Roads.
13. Flexibility to work across a range of tasks and environments.
14. Ability to participate in standby rotas, providing 24/7 emergency cover.
15. Physically able to carry out manual duties.
16. Ability to work independently and use initiative.
