Marine Engineering Officer Role Overview "> The Marine Engineering Officer plays a crucial role within the engineering department, serving as a key member of the ship's senior management team. As a Marine Engineer Officer, you will be responsible for leading, training, and welfare of the Engineering Branch personnel during sea postings. You will also supervise all engineering work, order required spare parts, and oversee the professional development of all engineering staff under your command. This includes maintaining and operating essential equipment on board to keep the ship moving. This includes hull and structure maintenance, main engines and auxiliary machinery operations, electrical supply systems management, deck machinery operation, and hotel systems maintenance (showers, sanitary, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration, heating). In addition to these responsibilities, you will be trained in fire and hull breach scenarios onboard, including equipment maintenance and training of the ships company. Following completion of mandatory training courses, you will be equipped with the necessary skills to take on this critical role. Upon completion of a sea rotation, you will be posted to a shore appointment in the Naval Dockyard, Naval Base, or the Naval College (NMCI) in Haulbowline, Cork. Here, you will be responsible for project management, maintenance planning, researching new equipment, and planning/ordering. You will ensure all engineering defects and planned maintenance routines are completed prior to the ship recommencing operational activities. You will also be encouraged to avail of internal training courses and funded continual professional development (CPD) in disciplines such as Project Management, Engineering masters programmes, H&S third level qualifications, etc. With a focus on becoming a Chartered Engineer, you will have opportunities to grow and develop your skills in a unique environment with a diverse team.
