Project Overview
The Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S) C3S2 311_Bis Project, led by ICARUS, Maynooth University in collaboration with KNMI, the University of Salerno, and a network of international partners, supports the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) in delivering high-quality climate data and services. The Service contract builds on previous C3S activities, ensuring continuity and reliability during a period of global uncertainty.
Key Areas
* Data Rescue – enhancing the joint WMO–C3S data rescue portal, developing a prototype image repository, improving the Data Deposition Service, and developing innovative approaches to data rescue, including student involvement, AI/ML and international collaborations.
* In-situ Observations – expanding and improving climate datasets in the Climate Data Store, updating land, marine, and upper-air holdings, and advancing global reference datasets in collaboration with international partners.
* Gridded Data & Climate Information – developing and maintaining key European gridded products (e.g. E-OBS, EOBS-EU, NGCD, LAPrec, EURADCLIM) and contributing to flagship outputs such as the European State of the Climate report.
Support Functions
The project also supports communications, outreach, training, and quality assurance across the wider C3S programme.
Research Assistant Role
We are seeking a research assistant with experience in the climate data rescue, as well as knowledge of the collation, processing and provision of historical land meteorological data. The post will support a Copernicus Climate Change Service contract that is anticipated to run through to 30/06/28.
Salary and Contract
Salary Scale
Research Assistant Level 1 (2025): €33,292 – €34,545 p.a. (3 points)
Appointments will be made in accordance with public sector pay provisions.
