Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for a full‑time, fixed term position as a Postdoctoral Researcher with the School of Biological and Chemical Science at the University of Galway, Ireland.
This position is funded by Enterprise Ireland and is available from 01-07-2026 to contract end date of 31-12-2027.
The RestOAre project is the first initiative funded under DTIF Call 7, led by Relevium Medical in collaboration with the University of Galway. It will have significant impact on knee osteoarthritis patients, providing immediate long‑lasting pain relief and reducing disease progression. The University of Galway seeks to hire a highly motivated full‑time post‑doctoral researcher for 18 months to develop and optimise the total chemical synthesis of new drugs for osteoarthritis. We are particularly interested in applicants with expertise in synthetic organic chemistry including the use of polymer ligands.
The candidate will join an interdisciplinary team focused on the organic chemistry of drugs to relieve pain. The researcher will contribute to research in synthetic organic chemistry while addressing global challenges in sustainability and health under the mentorship of Prof. Olivier Thomas and Dr Leo Quinlan, with the umbrella of the Relevium company and in close collaboration with other postdoctoral researchers hired on the project for the polymer chemistry and the natural product chemistry aspects. The role offers excellent opportunities for career development in the rapidly growing field of marine science.
The post‑doctoral researcher will be based in the Marine Biodiscovery laboratory and will work in close collaboration with Dr Leo Quinlan and Relevium Medical.
Salary: Postdoctoral Researcher salary scale €46,805 – €59,654 per annum (subject to the project’s funding limitations), and pro rata for shorter and/or part‑time contracts. The default position for all new public sector appointments is the 1st point of the salary scale.
