Job Summary
Housing Support Officers act as key workers to clients, alongside Health Care Assistants, with clients that have complex care and support needs. They provide practical and emotional support as part of clients’ overall support plans.
Responsible for the provision and co‑ordination of support services to young people (aged 18–25) who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. Coordinate delivery of homeless prevention interventions and wrap‑around supports to young people in transitional accommodation and living independently in the community, aiming to provide ontological security for sustainable independent living and personal development.
Key Responsibilities
Clients: Support clients from all backgrounds in a calm, trauma‑informed, harm‑reduction approach to implement client support plans that maximise health, self‑care, education, community engagement, home‑management skills and overall well‑being, promoting independent living.
Compliance: Stay compliant with all organisational policies, keep mandatory training up to date, and participate in routine maintenance, inspections and cleaning to meet health and safety standards.
Service Delivery: Lead a shift effectively, systematically log and record all interventions and monitor client progress on relevant systems, working efficiently and communicating clearly with the team to deliver high‑quality professional service.
General: Willingness to adapt to changing client and service needs.

Essential Requirements
Qualification: Degree in social care or similar and CORU registered as a Social Care Worker.
Experience: Two years of relevant experience in a similar role in a care setting.
Valid and full clean manual drivers licence with access to a vehicle for work‑related purposes, and ability to obtain insurance to indemnify Galway Simon and carry passengers.
Self‑motivated and able to motivate and inspire others.
Computer literate with a sound knowledge of Microsoft Office 365.
Patient, non‑judgemental and resourceful.
Flexible with working hours, including evenings and weekends.
Desirable
Experience working with vulnerable young people aged 18–25.
Experience using a harm reduction and a trauma‑informed approach.
Knowledge of services, resources and networks in Galway City & County.
Experience securing accommodation in the private rental market.
Familiar with assertive engagement and a solution‑focused approach.
Experience of lone working.
