Oncology Clinical Nurse Specialist Role
The Oncology Clinical Nurse Specialist plays a pivotal role in coordinating systemic anti-cancer treatment for patients with cancer diagnoses requiring SACT.
* Delivers specialized oncology nursing care, advice, and support to patients requiring SACT.
* Provides education and support to newly diagnosed cancer patients and their families.
* Coordinates patient referrals for SACT and collaborates with Oncology Consultants.
* Works closely with Oncology Clinical Nurse Managers and Surgical CNSs regarding patient treatment and follow-up.
* Liaises with external hospitals regarding concurrent treatment modalities such as radiotherapy.
* Attends Multi-Disciplinary Team meetings to discuss treatment regimens, radiology results, and SACT side effects.
* Promotes patient empowerment and active participation in care.
Key Responsibilities:
* Manages the Nurse-Led Oral Anti-Cancer Medication Clinic according to National Cancer Control Program recommendations.
* Conducts comprehensive holistic patient assessments using Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events.
* Cordinates patient prerequisite tests, treatment, and follow-up appointments safely and efficiently.
* Ensures informed decision-making throughout patient care continuum.
* Uses resources effectively and economically.
* Maintains a safe clinical environment through risk management strategies.
* Documents patient care accurately and reviews service delivery for excellence.
