About the Facility
Ballymote Community Nursing Unit is a single‑storey facility located in a residential area near the town of Ballymote. It accommodates up to 32 residents who require long‑term residential care or short‑term respite, convalescence, or palliative care. The home is decorated in a home‑like way and features safe garden areas with raised beds and shrubs to engage residents. Job Title and Location
Healthcare Assistant – Ballymote Community Nursing Unit, Carrownanty, Ballymote, F56 EP48
Job Purpose
To enhance the quality of life of each resident through individualised holistic care, promote independence, and communicate effectively with residents and the multidisciplinary team.
Main Responsibilities
Deliver quality care to each resident.
Assist residents with intimate and personal care as assessed.
Aid residents with eating and drinking where appropriate.
Promote and encourage a normal nutritional diet.
Assist residents with mobilising and diversional therapy (activities, movement to music, etc.).
Support nursing staff with all resident care, including care of the dying.
Be familiar with infection control.
Report changes in residents' condition to senior nurse on duty.
Ensure residents' sleep patterns are not unduly disrupted by excessive noise and bright lights at night.
Maintain required records throughout duty.

Provide close supervision day and night due to high dependency of residents.
Follow health and safety policies within Nazareth Care Ireland.
Report faulty equipment (lifting hoists, bath hoists, etc.) to immediate supervisor.
Familiarise with use of transfer slide sheets and handling belts.
Use hoists only with a second staff member present.
Understand evacuation and fire procedures.
Skills, Knowledge & Qualifications
FETAC Level 5 or equivalent training.
Previous experience caring for the elderly, preferably in a residential setting.
Person‑centred approach to care planning.
Team working experience.
Evidence of continuing professional development.
Effective communication at all levels.
Genuine interest in caring for older people.
Positive attitude and adaptability to changing needs.
Participation in care planning with nursing and other staff.
Proficiency in manual handling and patient moving skills.

Additional Information
