A Little More About Your Role…
As a Primary Design Engineer in WSP’s UK and Ireland Energy business, you will work as part of a multidisciplinary team delivering the power transmission infrastructure that will deliver Net Zero to the UK Energy System. This is an excellent opportunity to…
* Produce comprehensive design drawings for Grid and Primary substations.
* Prepare technical specifications and electrical designs for substation upgrades from 132kV to 400kV.
* Create feasibility reports, cost estimates, layouts, and plant specifications covering transformers, switchgear, and battery systems.
* Review supplier and client designs for technical compliance and alignment with legislation and policies.
* Ensure delivery of designs in accordance with contract and client satisfaction.
* Act as CDM Designer or Principal Designer for developed HV and EHV projects.
* Identify, communicate, and manage relevant Health & Safety risks and hazards.
* Attend site meetings to support design or requirement changes during project build.
What We Will Be Looking For You To Demonstrate…
* Minimum HNC/HND in Electrical Engineering.
* Experience with small, medium, and technically complex new substation, retrofit, or network reinforcement projects.
* Proven experience in HV and EHV substation design (AIS & GIS) from 132kV up to and including 400kV.
* Knowledge of engineering standards, technical policies, earthing, and electrical clearances for HV/EHV plant.
* Exposure to substation cable design, protection, and control.
* Excellent understanding of H&S and CDM requirements and ability to undertake the role of ‘Designer’ and ‘Principal Designer’ under CDM regulations.
* Preferable: Working towards or attained chartered engineer status.
* Preferable: National Grid BP141 HV Plant Authorisation.
