School of Pharmacy & Biomolecular Sciences (PBS): The School of Pharmacy and Biomolecular Sciences at RCSI is part of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, situated on St Stephen's Green, in the heart of Dublin. The vision of the RCSI School of Pharmacy and Biomolecular Sciences over the last 5 years is to be recognised internationally as a leading centre for pharmacy and health sciences education, research and innovation and we have focused on growth and diversifying our educational offerings. Our educators and researchers are focused on delivering world-class, patient-centred and fully-integrated teaching and research. PBS currently offers both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, including a fully-integrated, five-year degree programme leading to the award of MPharm, along with an innovative future focused four-year degree programme leading to the award of BSc in Advanced Therapeutic Technologies (commenced September 2022). Our Masters in Technologies and Analytics in Precision medicine launched in September 2021 for students interested in building a career in the new and exciting discipline of precision medicine. The latter two programmes are supported by a €7.8M Higher Education Authority Human Capital Initiative Grant to develop programmes addressing the skills needs of industry and are aligned with RCSI's ambitions in the area of digital and connected health. Indeed, we developed these new programmes in collaboration with our pharma industry / medtech colleagues. In line with internationalization across RCSI, in 2024 we recruited our first cohort of 158 students in the International College of Pharmaceutical Innovation (ICPI) in Suzhou, China, our first Joint Educational Institute (JEI) in partnership with Soochow University. Graduate School of Healthcare Management (GSM): As part of a dedicated health sciences university, the RCSI Graduate School of Healthcare Management provides management and leadership research, education and training to health professionals around the world. As Ireland's only third level institution exclusively focused on developing the leadership and management competencies of health professionals, the School has grown rapidly, with over 500 students currently registered on postgraduate programmes in leadership, management, quality and patient safety; with exciting new programmes in digital health, change, and empowering women leaders. We have an established record of developing leaders in Ireland, the Middle East and Africa, with the ambition to go further. We aim to offer the very best in healthcare management education to professionals and leaders wherever they are in the world, working across geographic and disciplinary boundaries to share learning for the betterment of health and well-being globally. As a graduate school we challenge managers, clinicians, executives, policy makers and private sector leaders to engage with the latest ideas and practice. We are committed to research that expands understanding and drives learning. Directed at tackling grand challenges and wicked problems, our research and scholarship activity is organised around three intersecting themes: Quality, Leadership & Systems; Empowerment & Wellbeing, and; Entrepreneurship Innovation & Digital Disruption. While the School's primary focus is on Graduate education, we also have an increasingly important role to play in supporting the development and delivery of transversal competencies in the University's undergraduate programmes. Lecturer in Leadership & Management: The post-holder of this joint appointment between GSM & PBS will have a crucial role in shaping the leadership & management education and capabilities of PBS undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. You will lead on the design, development and delivery of leadership & management content with colleagues in PBS to support the design and delivery of clinical leadership & management content to equip graduates with the personal and professional skills to excel. You will use and develop novel approaches to deliver on our education programmes in this area as well as developing research methodologies to improve healthcare professionals' capability to lead and manage the delivery of healthcare solutions in complex, dynamic and hyper-connected organisational settings. It is expected that research will be internationally competitive, disseminated widely and will have significant impact in health fields globally. New funding will need to be sought to maintain and grow self-sustaining research. Applicants will also be expected to contribute to /undertake any associated management and administrative duties. Objectives of this post are To lead the design, development and delivery of a range of undergraduate and postgraduate modules. To use innovative teaching and learning approaches and material, which create interest, understanding and enthusiasm amongst students for a broad range of management and organization content To generate new research approaches and identify, adapt, develop and use research methodologies and techniques appropriate to the type of research and development undertaken To publish high impact research in quality journals and books, either as a sole author or in collaboration with others, and to devise, direct and develop research projects generating external research funding. To effectively undertake a range of administrative and managerial responsibilities including contributing to, directing and coordinating the adjuncts and faculty delivering on management specific undergraduate modules. Specific Responsibilities include: Teaching and Learning Preparation, delivery and assessment in the broad curricular areas of leadership, organisational management and personal development for our undergraduate and post-graduate programmes, as required, ensuring at all times that teaching material is innovative, up-to-date and in line with international best practice. Demonstrate a student-centred approach to all duties to ensure optimal educational outcomes. Lead and/or advise on modules within various educational programmes. Participate in cross-functional teams to design and deliver academic programmes. Contribute to the quality assurance/quality improvement and accreditation of all programmes delivered in the School. Participate in the delivery of our teaching learning, assessment and feedback strategy including the effective use of technology-enhanced learning. Maintain and develop the School's relationship with teaching/placement sites (as appropriate). Research and Scholarship To obtain new knowledge by theoretical and/or practical methods. To engage actively in research at a high level and to demonstrate intellectual leadership and achieve high visibility in the field, at national and international level. To lead research proposals, identify sources of funding, submit funding bids, and plan the research activities to be undertaken. To ensure appropriate dissemination of research to national and international audiences by scholarly publication or other outputs appropriate to the relevant academic discipline. To develop national and international research links and use expertise, experience and judgement to decide how to design and execute research work. To engage in external academic activities in accordance with the School/University research strategy and to monitor research findings with a view to maximising impact and opportunities for commercial exploitation. To plan, co-ordinate and lead research activities in accordance with a specific project plan through a research team or a group of staff involved in research. To manage the financial and physical resources of research activities and make decisions on the appointment of research staff and students. To provide research mentorship, guidance and support to colleagues and students. Management and Administration To contribute to the wider academic community, general life and work of the University through, for example, editing journals, refereeing papers, external examining, and involvement in professional bodies. To support, supervise, train and direct students and other staff, as necessary, to maximise the research activity and outputs and develop teaching provision. Contribute to the recruitment and selection of research, teaching and other staff. Contribute to the administration and management of the School to facilitate the effective operation of the School and programmes of study. Contribute to the administration, management and wider life of the University. Person Specification: Qualifications and Experience PhD in relevant subject area. Appropriate academic professional and teaching qualification or a willingness to complete one. Experience of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in person and online. Achievements in scholarship and research at an international level are desirable. A proven track record in research with high quality journal / book publications and conference presentations. An extensive track record of teaching and learning in HE at undergraduate and postgraduate level or in a demonstrably similar context. Experience in a leadership role in teaching is desirable. Experience of teaching internationally diverse student cohorts is desirable. Knowledge Broad-based knowledge in relevant subject area. Well-established national reputation in relevant subject area. Experience of, or demonstrable willingness to engage in, healthcare management related research and teaching. Knowledge of a range of research techniques and methodologies. Knowledge of a range of teaching techniques to enthuse and engage higher education students and post-graduate leaners. Knowledge in relevant subject area to design & develop teaching programmes and the provision of learning support. Advanced and specialist IT knowledge. Research expertise in an area that will complement and enhance the School's research strategy and goals. International research and scholarship profile are desirable. Skills, Abilities and Competencies Ability to provide academic leadership in research and teaching areas internally and externally. Leadership skills including proven ability to supervise the work and development of others. Ability to motivate other staff in the areas of teaching and research. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to teach at any level within an area of expertise, and across a range of subjects at a more introductory level and demonstrate enthusiasm and commitment in the process of teaching. Ability to write and deliver presentations at national and international conferences. Excellent IT skills. Experience developing and delivering on-line material is desirable.
