Salary: Appointment will be made on the Senior Medical Scientist Scale (€66,667 - €88,021) at a point in line with Government pay policy
Hours of work: Full-Time, 35 hours

Job Summary
The position requires a strategic approach to the development of services and structures, embracing continuous quality improvement, technological development, and the management of changes necessary to achieve organisational objectives.
Responsibilities
Principal Duties & Responsibilities:
* Perform duties under the general direction of the Chief Medical Scientist.
* Perform all aspects of technical work to the highest standard.
* Supervise and support medical scientists and laboratory assistants.
* Organise the technical programme for efficient work patterns.
* Inspect laboratory equipment regularly and ensure proper maintenance.
* Collaborate on maintaining efficiency and introducing new methods.
* Assist in safety, health, and welfare measures for staff.
* Train students, on-call personnel, junior staff, and visitors as needed.
* Help achieve and maintain ISO15189 accreditation.
* Represent the Chief Medical Scientist at meetings when required.
* Attend courses and meetings to stay updated.
* Perform other duties appropriate to the grade.

Qualifications
Selection Criteria:
Applicants will be assessed based on how well they meet the following criteria:
Mandatory:
* Statutory registration with the Medical Scientists Registration Board at CORU.
* Possession of one of the following Level 9 postgraduate qualifications:
* MSc in Clinical Laboratory Science (DIT or TU Dublin)
* MSc in Clinical Chemistry (TCD)
* MSc in Biomedical Science (Ulster, CIT/UCC, MTU/UCC)
* MSc in Molecular Pathology (DIT/TCD)
or an equivalent qualification validated by the Academy of Clinical Science and Laboratory Medicine, or Fellowship of the Academy awarded before July 2018, or Fellowship of the Institute of Biomedical Science awarded prior to 1999.
and four years of full-time clinical experience as a medical scientist in a diagnostic laboratory, with evidence of CPD, and the ability to perform duties professionally.
Proof of statutory registration must be provided before employment.
Annual registration: Maintain annual registration with CORU and confirm annually via the Patient Safety Assurance Certificate (PSAC).
