About Tyndall National Institute & UCC Futures

Tyndall is a leading European research institute in semiconductors, photonics, electronics, AI, and deep-tech innovation.

Acts as Ireland's national semiconductor hub ("Silicon Island") and a key player in the EU Chips Act.

UCC Futures – Quantum & Photonics is a multidisciplinary initiative driving next-generation quantum, photonics, and AI technologies with applications in computing, healthcare, energy, communications, and beyond.

Tyndall has >700 staff and researchers, with plans to expand to 1,000 by 2030, including 250 PhD students.


Role Overview

The successful candidate will:

Lead research in integrated micro-nano magnetics materials, devices, and systems for high-performance computing and AI.

Design, fabricate, test, and integrate novel micro-nano magnetic devices and systems.

Provide academic leadership in MicroNano Magnetics activities across the School of Engineering and Tyndall National Institute.

Collaborate with industry partners and contribute to teaching initiatives.

Support Tyndall's mission and UCC Futures strategic goals, including involvement with the SFI CONNECT Centre for Future Communications and Networks.


Candidate Profile

Distinguished research record in integrated micro-nano magnetics materials, devices, or systems (experimental expertise required).

Proven record of teaching excellence and ability to mentor researchers.

Ability to collaborate with industry and lead research teams.

Capacity to develop new research initiatives and coordinate research and teaching across the Institute and School.
