The Opportunity
The Technical Sales Engineer will be responsible for expanding and strengthening the company's presence across Ireland, working with customers in manufacturing, machinery automation, process industry, OEMs, system integrators, and engineering consultancies.
Reporting to the Sales Team Leader in Ireland, this role will focus on:
* Growing the market for automation components, systems, and engineering services
* Developing long-term relationships with new and existing customers
* Driving opportunities from initial concept through to order placement
* Acting as a technical expert for automation applications
You will also work closely with colleagues in sales, product support, marketing, and distribution to deliver a best-in-class customer experience.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage and grow revenue within a defined customer base
* Build strong customer relationships to increase repeat business and "share of wallet"
* Identify and convert new prospects into active customers
* Provide pre-sales and post-sales technical support across the product and services portfolio
* Prepare proposals and manage opportunities from initial enquiry through to close
* Support engineering and upgrade projects in machinery safety, process automation, and industrial security
* Maintain accurate CRM records and produce sales activity reports
* Collaborate with internal teams to support strategic growth initiatives
* Ensure compliance with organisational policies, safety standards, and documentation practices
The Person
Essential
* Minimum 5 years' technical sales experience in automation, controls, electrical switchgear or a related sector
* Proven success managing customer accounts and delivering revenue growth
* Strong technical understanding of automation technologies such as PLCs, motion control, sensors, relays, safety systems, control panels, or distributed control systems
* Ability to discuss both technical and commercial aspects of automation projects at all levels
* Full clean driving licence and willingness to travel nationwide
* Strong initiative, communication skills, and a consultative sales approach
* Competence with CRM systems, sales tools, and standard IT applications
Highly Advantageous
* Knowledge of machine safety standards (e.g., ISO 13849)
* Familiarity with industrial security and risk assessment methodologies
* Experience selling into Life Sciences, MedTech, or Food & Beverage sectors
* SAP experience
* Postgraduate qualification in business or sales
