The current salary scale for the position ranges from €48,277 (minimum) to €57,218 (maximum), inclusive of LSI’s.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
The duties of the role include, but are not limited to, the following. The post holder may be required to perform other duties as appropriate to the post, contribute to its development, and perform additional tasks as assigned from time to time.
Below are examples of the role and responsibilities of a Technician Grade 1 within various departments. Please note that these lists are not exhaustive, and duties may overlap or vary within each area.
Housing:
Housing Technicians will join a team managing maintenance (reactive and planned) of Kilkenny County Council’s Social Housing Stock and overseeing the delivery of new housing stock, both in-house and with external design teams. They will ensure that works comply with best practices and current Building Regulations.
* Assisting with the design of housing units, extensions, retrofit programmes, and alterations using AutoCAD, REVIT, and other software for drawings and specifications at various project stages.
* Conducting housing inspections, recording observations, and compiling reports. These inspections may relate to maintenance, private rented standards, or grant assessments.
* Managing projects and contractors involved in various works.
* Performing any other duties assigned from time to time.
Planning:
Supporting the daily operations and maintenance of transportation infrastructure, record-keeping, and development analysis in the Planning Department.
* Preparing reports, surveys, and data processing using GIS, AutoCAD, and other systems.
* Engaging with the public and Elected Officials, providing information, and handling inquiries. Skills in drafting, mechanical drawing, or surveying may be required.
Environment:
* Licensing and monitoring effluent management.
* Monitoring waste management facilities including recycling, composting, transfer stations, and landfills.
* Investigating environmental pollution incidents, evaluating, and reporting findings.
* Sampling and analyzing waste.
* Conducting farm inspections under the Good Agricultural Practice Regulations 2020.
* Interacting with the EPA regarding water and wastewater system inspections and audits.
* Reporting incidents and liaising with HSE, EPA, and IW.
Roads:
* Procurement and supervision of road construction, design, and maintenance projects, including pavement and footpath standards assessment.
* Preparing detailed design drawings for contracts using AutoCAD.
* Using surveying equipment and technical software like AutoCAD and ArcGIS.
* Supporting staff in AutoCAD & GIS system implementation and use.
* Managing and supervising staff, collaborating with relevant sections to gather and digitize existing service data.
* Writing reports to ensure completeness, accuracy, and appropriateness for users’ needs.
* Performing other activities as assigned by the Line Manager/Supervisor.
