Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoW) – Inis Environmental Consultants Ltd.
Inis Environmental Consultants Ltd (INIS) is recruiting a full‑time Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoW) to join our Ecology team across our Ennis, Cork, and Dublin offices.
Key Responsibilities
* Advise on protecting biodiversity features on construction sites.
* Provide practical, site‑specific, and proportionate assistance to achieve compliance with environmental legislation.
* Review relevant documents, including AA/NIS, EcIA, CEMP, and species and habitat management plans.
* Consult with local planning authorities, Biodiversity Officers, NPWS, and IFI.
* Conduct pre‑construction and construction phase checks for protected species.
* Provide ecological watching briefs for activities such as vegetation clearance, building renovation, demolition, habitat translocation, creation or enhancement and management work.
* Maintain daily records, sign off construction documents, and produce audit reports as required.
Person Specification
The ideal candidate will show enthusiasm for managing ecological or environmental risks on construction projects, advising clients and contractors on regulations and planning conditions to ensure smooth and cost‑efficient project delivery.
Essential Requirements
* Third‑level qualification in environmental science, zoology, ecology, or a related discipline.
* Minimum 3 years of experience on ecological projects, ideally delivering practical conservation advice or management.
* Knowledge of Irish and EU environmental protection and wildlife legislation and planning guidelines.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including face‑to‑face discussion with clients and contractors.
* Full driving licence and willingness to travel to sites.
Desirable Skills and Experience
* Proven experience as an ECoW or similar field‑based ecological role.
* Knowledge of construction management, civil engineering, and project management.
* Membership of CIEEM or AEnvCoW, or willingness to attain membership within three months.
* Excellent IT skills.
